Around here a Zr2 with a diesel is around $46+ through on the AEV badging and boom, I see 50+ for a midsize truck. I wouldn't ever pay for a pro either. Waste of money on my book.

Well you dont have to worry about destroying a shock mount on the road pulling a horse trailer.

Unless there is a special exchange rate just for Chevy trucks, those numbers do not compute.

I agree with you about this.

I was thinking about what you said, and it occurred to me that "reliability" is subjective.

I always heard about reliability of Japanese vehicles, but never cared to even research, visit a dealer or test drive one- only US brands were ever considered.

When my like minded wife needed a new vehicle, she went to some dealers and finally told me she liked the Subaru Forester. I said ok since it was for her, and we really like it still.

So that opened my mind, and I bought a Toyota.

If not for her making that choice, I would probably kept my old mind set and bought a GM

These trucks are company trucks for a forestry operation.....i can guarantee they see hard use off road, if the mounts are thick enough they will survive

Dont know what to tell you, msrp as listed on each manufacturers websites and what I see in window stickers at my local dealers

Both msrp prices are before the roughly 2k freight and PDI

Yeah, you often see F250's at the Rubicon trail, do you? Bit of a difference of what they do for forestry and what they show the ZR2 doing in the marketing.

Wow, ok so the zr2 may bend a shock mount on the Rubicon trail if you don't have a spotter or you take it at 10 mph.

The places I see super duties at work would rival the Rubicon trail at times. I don't live near California, and last I checked the state of Maine is just about as far away as my province so why do you care?

I am not brand loyal, but this new zr2 has more features than a stock trd pro

Because you don't have to go on the rubicon trail to encounter an object that will smack into your shock mount which is the lowest part of those trucks.

My point exactly, which is why I gave the example of the super duties I see being abused off road for over a decade and seem to fair just fine

You mean logging sites that have already had tree fellers move through to clear a road? Hardly the same as what they show in the ZR2 advertising materials.

Ok dude, whatever you say. I've been working in the woods for 13 years and not all roads are created equal, but since you seem to know everything I'll let this die with this picture of a super duty's rear shock mounts

And if your that concerned, for $99 USD buy these

A couple of things I've learned on Tacoma World.

    1. If it ain't a Tacoma it sucks.
    2. It's okay to criticize the reliability of another brand yet it's not OK to criticize any issues with Toyota...that makes you a whiner
    3. There a perfectly good reasons we don't have height adjustable seat, car play or disc brakes. The lack of those features makes for a far superior vehicle.
    4. The ZR2 Bison has 8.6" of ground clearance, the Taco SR5 has 9.4" of ground clearance, parking lot curbs come in at 6". Do the math.
    5. The ZR2 Bison is a warmed over ZR2 with pathetic factory bolt on upgrades at a ridiculous price, however the Tacoma Pro is NOT a warmed over Off-Road with pathetic factory bolt on upgrades at a ridiculous price.
    6. Resale value is the most important factor in buying a vehicle. We should all put up with a vehicle that has less features, less power and less economy if the resale value kicks ass.

A couple of things I've learned in the Real World.

    1. Being a brand whore is unfulfilling and self limiting. Drive what makes you happy and fills your needs. Loyalty to a brand is ultimately self-defeating if it causes you to accept less from the brand...or allow the brand to become complacent. Don't confuse complacency with progress.

    2. Every vehicle has it's issues. I've had good Toyota products and bad Toyota products. I've put more trouble free miles on GM and Dodge products (knock on wood) than all other brands combined. My 2006 DMax 2500 was the most trouble free vehicle I've owned. Powerful, comfortable, easy to maintain, and got the same mileage as a current Taco. I put close to 300K trouble free miles on it.

    3. There are no good reasons for settling for less. Toyota's would not be a lick less reliable if they added disc brakes, car play or adjustable seats. Rear drum brakes are not superior, entune sucks and I've raised and lowered Taco seats enough times that I refuse to buy the fact that they can't put them in. I like our Pro, but I'll be damned if I'll carry the water for Toyota's stupid marketing decisions.

    4. I spend a lot of time off road in a very populated area and see precious few tacos on the trails. A lot of agonizing is done on this forum regarding off-road capability by people who don't off road.

    5. I own a Taco Pro. I can call a spade a spade and not a gardening tool. The ZR2 Bison is the direct equivalent of a Taco Pro. To criticize the existence of one while lauding the existence of the other is hypocritical.

    6. Resale value means shit if you hate the car.

Jeep and Ford will soon have midsize trucks on the market. The Jeep will most likely be more trail cable than a Tacoma and the Ford will probably be more efficient and have a ton of content options that Toyota won't be able to match. Nissan has a refresh coming up and Ram will probably bring back the Dakota. GM already as a midsize diesel and the odds are that the one or two of the others will follow suit. The next gen of diesel emissions are already eliminating EGR and simplifying post treatment - meaning more reliability and economy with less expense and maintenance.

We should all be looking forward to the presence of more mid sized options and innovation to the market.

Very well said and I agree 100%. I love both my Toyota's, but the blind brand loyalty i see and read on here from other members makes me laugh
