    Oil change at 203 miles
Hi I just bought a new Tacoma Pro and want to ask questions so it will last a long time like Toyota’s used to before 10k oil change scams ruined the deal for most of the owners. How often should I change the oil and when for first time, 500 miles maybe.

I also need to lift also, who knows a good lift for pros? Maybe bigger tires but I don’t know who makes any that fit.

I’m confused why you would change the oil at 500 miles? They should come with a break-in solvent in the oil that helps with the break-in process. I don’t think you can go wrong with following the first interval as recommended

It's been proven over and over again. The mindset of changing oil from the factory at 500 miles goes back to the 70s when 8 tracks came as an upgrade on cars. Times have changed for sure. But it's hard for many to change their mind on it.

Synthetic oil just lasts a lot longer. Dino oil, my 2010 came with, was a 5,000 mile recommendation... and I did the first few at 3,000 miles then stretched to 4,000.

I switched over to synthetic a couple years ago and now go 8,000 miles instead of the 10,000 recommended... Doubling the distance over my dino changes. I am happy with the looks of the oil at that change point... is is dirty but not real dark... seeing through it like honey in my engine, I am happy. My Tacoma has 114,000 miles on it, not a single engine issue in the 9 years from when I got it new. I think the newest oil (Castrol High Mileage) is good for 12,000 miles... but I won't exceed 10,000, if I wait even that long.

I am going with 5k. Almost there now and my oil barely looks dirty (yes I know looks means nothing). I dont trust 10k intervals but hearing others with their lab oil results at 10k makes me content with 5k knowing that the oil is still good even after that long

I don't think any manufacturer uses break in oil any longer, if I am not mistaken Honda was the only one left years back.

Question OP. Why would you buy a Pro and not an Off Road if you are going to change out all that fancy suspension you paid for?

I do 12,500 mile oci per oil analysis. Op have you ever heard of a tacoma breaking because of the 10,000 oil change intervals? Don't think so.

I do 6 to 7k on mine. Depends on if I had towed with that oil.
Mobil 1 here usually since it is cheaper than AMS. Locally I found a place selling 0w-20 ams for 5 a quart so I will switch to that.

    Too few to list.
Toyota's have been going over 200K with just regualr dino oil. If you guys are really worried about break in and when to change oil, just get an analysis done with blackstone labs.

Funny how oil threads always sound the same on EVERY car/truck forum. FWIW I just changed the oil/filter on the 2018 at 500 miles and will continue OCI at 5K miles. YMMV.

My 2017 Corvette Grandsport requires a first oil change at 500 miles or engine warranty is voided.
I have 410,000 miles on my 1996 Tacoma using 10w-30 Pennzoil, always changing it at approx 5,000 miles.
I have just about 1,000 miles on my 2018 RTD Sport, not sure what I will use in it or how often I will change it.

How the hell does that ruin anything by recommending 10,000 miles! Your free to change the oil when ever you please, it's your money.:spending:

Ok never mind I am returning the truck in the morning for a Jeep probably their pro model. Way better than Toyota if you ask me or literally everyone on wikihow.

I did my first one at 3500-4000 then the dealer had 2 years free service, and I did the 5k in between 2-3 times, now I am on their 60k oil change and tire rotation package. not sure I will change in between anymore. have 32k on it and love it. enough information out there on oil analysis that states you don't need a change before 10k miles..
