Thanks! It helped that we were out that way for a last minute house sitting request. :D
It was a very nice first run :)
Definitely counting on those sliders to save my truck from my inexperience, lol.

Brian, that is awesome. I recently took my 8 yo son on a 3 night overland trip on Mojave Road. It was incredible. Great easy off roading and camping with some great waypoints. PM me if you want GAIA maps.

Nice! Fun times and wonderful memories for you and your son! Nice rig, too. Mojave Road!! I was just researching it and hoping to experience it sometime next year. Thanks for reporting-- for this newbie, nice to hear that it is easy. Thanks for the offer on GAIA maps. I will hit you up if I figure out if I know how to read/use them.

I do have a question about fuel. I plan on bringing extra fuel as a precaution. Did you guys have to fuel up from canisters during the 3 days? I imagine that a full tank is enough to get through the 140 or so miles.

We brought fuel but did not need it. We stayed on the road and did only a few short side trips. You should travel with another vehicle or bring a satellite phone with you if you go solo. Mojave road is a great road to use you Gaia maps, dial in you camping set up etc. if you go, April is a perfect time.

I’m like you and use my Tacoma for a lot of gardening. I found this bag at Home Depot and I just fill it up with mulch/bark in the back of my truck. Just drag it out and no mess left behind....I know I’m getting old when I’m drooling over mature trees in people’s yards

All great to know! I know that I wont need to go nuts with the extra fuel. For sure we will go with at least one additional vehicle!
Emergency communication is an excellent suggestion. I've looked into SAT phone rentals and am researching Garmin's inReach units and subscription costs. As always, I appreciate the knowledge.

Oh, nice!! Thanks also for the rec on the bag. I am gonna look for it. I like how it is nice and simple (compared with something like a quick loader.)

Yeah, I am that way too-- I am eyeing old trees and green waste bins, lol. And every time I travel east and see paper bags of leaf waste..haha

(Still feeling very new here so I thought I would post the following in this thread; rather than start a new one.)

When we visited the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Florida last November, I happened to noticed that the SEALs uses Tacoma trucks. Further inspection revealed that it is actually the tougher diesel sibling-- a Hilux. At the time, I was on team 4Runner. I really thought that I would end up with a 4Runner for the first time. Subsequently, I happily chose Team Tacoma for the bigger "truck" space, lol. Even though I was for team 4Runner, I was too busy admiring the Hilux and checking out the mods to take pictures of the details like the cab, seats, suspension, etc. I wished I had more pictures to share.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
There are a few pictures floating around the internet of US forces using Tacoma's in the middle east.

We used to use Tacoma’s a lot early in the war. Unfortunately, they’re not bullet proof in the literal sense....or IED proof. They fit perfectly in the back of a chinook.

Thank you for your service. Thanks also for sharing. They had a similar ATV at the UDT museum. These look much bigger.
