Got my truck done today, dealer knew about this problem and got it done. The ride home was great. BTW mine is a 2018 model year.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
For 3rd gen Taco owners in/around Atlanta.

I Forgot to mention where I got the update done.
Should you be in the Atlanta or south side of Atlanta, and are looking for a dealership that will make this update happen, and knows of the issue.

    Toyota South

My close friend runs the Parts/Service/Collision depts over there. We wheel together frequently, and they are super easy to deal with. Also if your a ih8mud member he gives you a nice discount on ordering parts.

I was told pretty much the same thing the other day when I took the truck to the dealer, since I had the 77-16 R1 done on 12/16 there were no newer up dates. I will check with another dealer.

That is the hill start / traction control system working. Will do it on dry pavement if the hill is steep enough.

I'd call BS on the dealership. Find and print out t-sb-0077-16 and t-sb-0058-18r1 then reference the calibration information previous and new column. It's clear to see 0077 is the old cal. Id.

Got the TSB 0062-18 done today. I have a 2018 OR. I don’t need the TSB 0058 correct?

You are welcome. 58 and 62 are the exact same update. I hope it helps!

Exactly, any dealer that gives a hard time when you dropped 30-40K on your vehicle needs an earful. This is a problem they should know about, and if they don’t then they are either full of it or it’s yet another area where Toyota is failing and we need to educate them.

This shouldn’t be left up to chance, they should acknowledge your awareness of the updates. If they don’t, you can press them to show you the document that checks for updates, and if you are on the latest, it will show there are none available. When I got the updates, they showed me the printout of all systems and the ones that had updates available. They then showed me side by side the systems after the two updates were applied showing no more available updates. Do not take their word for it without documented proof. Engage them and make them own it.

Another tip is I emailed the sales person I bought the truck from, and he emailed a guy from the shop portion of the dealership. Then the service manager put it on my write up to check TSB’s. Then they showed me the docs when complete.

One week with this tsb and the truck will stumble one outta ten times on a grade and wide open throttle.

Also started driving with ECT on and it's doing very well getting up to freeway speeds. No hunting or stumble with ECT so far.

    D-ring tie-downs.
Followed a brand new goat head 2500 well services truck through town the other day. Going real slow, no problem cause streets are busy. Then I noticed there was about 300yd of no cars in front of him. There’s about a half-mile 4 lane hill at the end of business area. He stayed in the left lane pokin along. I went to right lane and he pushed on the fuel. Well, I put the spurs to my Tacoma and this 3.5 is so much sweeter than the 4.0s I had. The kick down was smooth and the 3.5 pulled hard up through the tach and never quit until I eased up. I’m a happy man. Like driving an empty dump truck.

Depends when the TSB is applied. Any TSB that updates the ECU is going to get whatever is current at the time it's applied. If there's ever a newer calibration file in the future and you take your non-updated truck in for 0058 bulletin you'll get a different calibration ID than what is on the TSB today.

Just had this done on my 2018 OR. From the little drive home it seems to be doing much better up grades and doesn't have that lag when you want to get up and go. I will update this post again after I drive my commute route to see if there is any improvement.

Update: have driven a good bit now with the update and man it’s definitely better. Take off is much smoother, shifts through the gears better, going up grades is better, and no impact to mpg.

My '18 truck doesn't have the TSB at this point. It shifts fine, doesn't fumble, stumble or hunt for gears, even with a 1,100 elevation change in the first and last few miles of my daily commute. I will say this however, averaging 15mpg, if these reports of 5-10% increases in mpg continue to pan out over the coming months, I'll be getting the update nonetheless.

To those running the update (that have done a little more than make it home from the dealer) please continue to post your before and after experiences on mpg, as the miles add up..

    TIA.

Before: hating driving it. Stumbled at take off and had force downshifting just to get up and go. Shifting was a nightmare.
After: realized immediately the pick up from a dead stop was improved. The stumble wasn’t there... almost drove like it did before the lift. Can easily keep up with traffic when the light turns green. I would say ~80% improvement.

Highly recommended to anyone having the issue. Funny thing... the dealer said I was the first that asked for it. Lol

500 kms since the TSB update, total 62,000 on the truck. Update done last week in Alberta. Didn’t notice a difference till I went to pass someone and wow! I thought I was driving my old 4L! Big jam once again. Today had to step on it in town and squealed some rubber. I think it’s less of a little b*** in 6th gear now too. Seems to hold the gear rather than always drop to 5th

How do I get this done? Just go to the dealer ship and ask for what specifically? Had my truck a little over a week and can feel this stumbling/almost feels like it’s slipping a gear sometimes when accelerating at a low rpm
