dumb question, what would you run if you knew you were going to be on highway for a few hundred miles and wanted the most compliant ride?

More than likely, id set it to something soft... 2-5 clicks. I live in Central TX so all trips start with long 6+ hour drives on interstates to get to the mountains. I almost never run it on 0 although the ride is quite plush.

Good to know. How many threads / inches of preload do you have your 4R set at drivers vs passengers?

I shouldn’t have said top out but instead, when the limit straps hit full extension is the thud noticeable or greatly improved vs no straps

Cool. Ball Park is good enough. Most interested in the approximate difference between the two sides.

Any suggestions on preload for me? Curious what any other 3rd gen folks, without much armor, are running. I went with 700# springs up front. No bumper or winch, yet.

Yeah I am sure it is you can see my ball joint is maxed at droop which is where I had the issue, I do not have that much preload anymore but I am running 650# coils with a Demello Steel front bumper

    Winch or no winch?

I’m leaning toward 700lb coils myself - hopefully not too stiff since it seems like a lot of people are running that spring rate.

I’ve got a steel plate bumper up front, winch will be another 6-12 months away.

I’ve got BAMF 1/4” steel IFS / Mid / Trans skids and a single hoop bumper. My plan will be for synthetic line in the winch. I think I’m going to go for 700. I think my TRD PRO Bilstein front shocks are 600lb coils and they just aren’t enough.

Popping noises could come from the coil rotating as it compresses. The spring rotates slightly on compression and where the spring ends if caught at the right location in the coil cup may make a pop noise as it reseats. My OME did this from time to time and that’s what a buddy told me who is an off-road enthusiast (sponsored)

This surprises me. Heavy load springs in OME are 650lb. Medium load is 590 lb. 700 sounds like super heavy. Do springs differ that much where 700 lb would equal heavy due to extended travel or ???

I wanted to make sure I wouldnt have to swap springs in the future when I add armor and an agm battery. Thats what ultimately led me to 700#.
