When you got 6 miles until the nearest gas station and 9 miles of gas
Set the cruise control to follow at minimum distance and get behind a semi. The draft really works. I usually get 18 on the highway, but doing this I’m at a solid 30!

If you’re 2 ft away from the truck, you have a 93% drag reduction.

Just in case you miss the exit. :D

Makes you wonder how much deisel is burned, worldwide, everyday, just to move those large square trailers around. It’s hard to believe another form factor hasn’t presented itself in all these years that is at least slightly aerodynamic.

I’d love to see those Tesla electric semis hit the road and replace all the diesels.

I bet you still had 3-4 gallons left. That DTE is very optimistic (err...pessimistic).

Good to know. Anyone push it to the limit? First vehicle I’ve had with the DTE and that was a little sketchy watching those numbers get lower and lower

I once went 20 miles when the dash told me I only had 10 left. Gas was 10 cents cheaper up the road.

When I filled up, I still had a little less than a gallon in the tank.

If I was brave, I probably could have made it to South Carolina and saved some major bucks..

Usually manufactures put a 30-40 mile buffer when it hits 0. I have hit 0 on my old A3 Hatchback and it still had a gallon and a half (37 or so miles).

Just to give an idea, normal semis get about 5mpg, with a single solid tire on the rear duallies they get a whole 9mpg. I had a short conversation with a driver

Ha true, I was more impressed with the mpg due to the draft. I just never realized it was such a difference. Or never payed attention.

There are changes to improve aerodynamics. The most common I see are the skirts that go under the trailer. Less common are the flaps on the back around the doors. The most aero cargo trailer in the world is useless if it can't carry cargo. A big box is great for moving a bunch of smaller boxes.

A broken windshield usually isn't worth the mpg savings to me. I suppose if you're facing running out you do what you gotta do...
