Surprised no one has mentioned how bad it is to run tank so low. . . Ruined fuel pump on a Ducati with less than 500 miles on it running it bone dry. . .

Just by looking at the gauge, I’d venture a guess of you still having 50-60 miles in the reserve.. I like to live dangerously

My light comes on when I have 18 miles left. When I refill when the light comes on it always takes 18 gallons of gas. That’s 3 gallons left when the light comes on. I’ve done it dozens of times.

Be careful doing this. It really pisses off truckers because they can’t see you and you pose an unnecessary risk to them. My uncle was a cross country truck driver most of his life and on one occasion, a car was drafting him so tight, he couldn’t even see the rear bumper except when he changed lanes or weaved in the lane.

Long story short, my uncle couldn’t shake the car drafting him for over a 100 miles. Speed changes, lane changes, brake checks, nothing. So, after the sun set, my uncle dropped to 40mph and slammed the brakes and skidded to a stop. He reported to the cops a deer or something large darted on the road in front of him. A wrecker had to pull the sedan out from under the trailer since the hood was tangled. The sedan driver was fine, but really pissed. Cops issued a following too close ticket to the sedan and both insurance companies faulted the sedan too.

Moral of the story, when following a big rig, always make sure you can see their mirrors. If you can see them, they can see you.

myth busters did this test. in order for it to work you have to be dangerously close to the back of the semi. even then i forget how good the results were.

This is not at all caused by "draft". You are far too far back, and even if you were close enough, you probably wouldn't see a jump from 18 to 30 mpg.

My guess is that you are rolling slightly downhill. Not only does the picture suggest this, but at 60 mph and 1500 rpm, you are in 5th or 6th gear. On level ground with the cruise set it would drop down to 4th. Other ways for this to happen is to set cruise at 60, accelerate to 70, then let off the pedal and watch the bar move to the right.

The indicators are consistent but not always telling the full story.

Hey man I’m not trying to trick anyone. I got no reason to lie about it. It’s just something I noticed and thought I’d share. When I finally got a chance to take a pic I was at the top of that hill, but I drove about 20 miles before that following that truck with the same results. If your truck doesn’t get into 6th gear on a flat surface maybe you should bring it in to your local mechanic and check that tranny. On the highway I’m always in 6th doing 65 at 1500-1700 rpm everyday.

Look closely. My response did not accuse you of lying. I saw somebody who has roughly one month / 1200 miles in their truck and was clearly mistaking what the dashboard said.

You on the other hand, denied lying twice and back pedaled your story to something like "I was drafting for 20 miles, then when I wasn't drafting I took this pic".

Either learn to lie better, or develop some integrity. Hint, integrity is easier.

I can only speak for myself but at 65 on level highway with cruise control I am at 1600 rpm in 6th. From the many transmisson topics on this forum I think this is true for a lot of people with the newer transmission software updates.

This has to be a joke. You're not close enough to him to draft, also that's a great way to get a nice collecting of rock chips quickly!

Wow. You really got me with the integrity bit.
I didn’t back pedal... I gave you the back story. And you completely misquoted me.

This post wasn’t meant to get anyone’s opinion or your detective work on what the circumstances where. This is what I witnessed in my truck for at least 20 miles with my cruise set to Toyota’s factory setting on minimal distance. That’s all. Have a good one.
