Lots of good information. The USAA one for the top protection was like $1200. I was going to wait until the 36k warranty expired but thought it might be cheaper to purchase on a new vehicle vs one with 36k on it. I will wait for more opinions. Pretty sure I have some time

I would call USAA or check online to see if they have a chart. I know that the longer you wait time/mileage the less options you have. For example after a certain period of time the same plan may cost more due to the inherit risk involved. Or if you go over xxxx mileage, then the 3/36 plan is no longer available. Just food for thought.

Yea that’s what I was thinking Hambone101. I will call Monday. I’m torn really. It’s a Toyota Tacoma and overall viewed as very reliable. However, if something expensive goes to shit at 70k because shit happens even to the best vehicles then I could easily be out a couple grand very quick. Not something a family of 4 can usually afford. Someone from USAA posted and brought up a good point about each states rules so that’s also something I need to look into here in VA. I will also stop by Malloy (local dealer) and see what they have to say.

I think my repairs have not been abnormal by the looks of other members on this forum.

At 32K had trans software updated & TSB completed for noisy rear diff so rear leaf spring replacement & sound insulation.

At 35K had front differential & drivers CV axle assembly replaced due to vibration/noise. HPFP replaced as well for chirping noise.

At 37K had climate control unit replaced as passenger side dial very hard to move. Both front window seals replaced as windows rattling when 1/4 way down.

At 39K having rust in drivers door jam repaired, hood bracing glued back together & another software update for engine.

I bought a 2018 OR over a week ago and caved into buying the Platinum protection plan. After reading this thread I realize that I did not get a good deal, at all. I'm paying over $2,000 (after they voluntarily took off $1,000) over 3 years with no APR for an 8yr/75,000 mile plan. I also realized that I have MBI through Geico after the purchase.

Can I cancel the extended warranty, shop around, and then repurchase? Should I just use MBI through Geico? I prefer going though Toyota, but the price of MBI is more appealing.

You can request a refund and shop around for a better price.

If you are going to do a warranty, then Factory is the ONLY option, IMO. It’s always better and less fuss, 3rd parties are just a real pain to deal with, constantly looking for cheap / crap ways out, fixing it on the cheap and usually make you run through hoops.
Just search the net for Factory Warranty vs 3rd party. You will not find one independent site that recommends 3rd party.

What is the name of the dealership where you got this deal. I would like to call them and get the same deal. I had not thought of USAA will have to check there also.

Don't know if I would say that. They have a 100,000 mile warranty for a reason. I have a Sorento with over 135,000 and nothing ever wrong with it. Wait one coil spring broke. That was it.
