So here is my rant from today. We went to my sisters high school graduation at the Patriot Center at George Mason University today and somehow they managed to get the Marine Corps color guard from Quantico to come and present the flag during the National Anthem. They did an excellent job and it was inspiring to me and reminded me why I am joining. Anyways, some of the parents took the opportunity when everything was silent to scream out their kids names. At first I was like shut up, but then some other parents started doing the same. soon you couldnt even hear the Anthem playing. I could tell that some people were pissed but golly, please shut up for 3 effing minutes!! seriously. i dont care how important Shanequa or Bobby or whoever the eff you are yelling at is to you. The most respected guys in the country are standing right in front of you with the American flag flying and the National Anthem playing. Shut the Fuck Up!!! Not to be racist but almost all the people yelling were either Mexican or Black which i found to be intriguing to say the least.... Anyways i just hope nobody on this site does this kind of shit because I find it extremely offensive and I was standing right next to my dad who served in the Air Force for 24 years and i felt bad for him because i knew he wanted to go up there and kick their asses and i would have joined him if he did... anyways, rant off. Thanks to everyone who doesnt do this kind of stuff, and if you do please stop.

sorry to hear that man. Went to a ball game last night where the color guard present the colors before the game and they told everyone TWICE to not clap or cheer until the colors had been retired and sure enough everyone went nuts right when the anthem was coming to a close...frustrating to say the least.

    Different question

Were there a lot of campaign ribbons on the Marine Corp flag? ;)

A strange dichotomy we have here in the states. Those Marines fought for "freedom". I love them for that. Unfortunately, "freedom" also gives citizens the right to be assholes. Was it disrespectful? Absolutely, yes! Do they have the right to be douche bags? Unfortunately, yes they do.

In Iraq, Sadam would have had them killed on the spot for doing that. We invaded his country, dethroned, and hanged him for his intolerance. Now you want to beat someone's ass for doing the same thing. My friend, you are walking a fine line bordering hypocrisy.

    Just my opinion.

nope it was a clean flag. I did notice something that I never noticed though. at the same time that they executed present arms the guy with the Marine Corps flag tilted it slightly forward so that it was lower than the American flag. thought that was pretty nifty

We also have the freedom to beat their faces in, we just have to live with the consequences. If the good outweighs the bad, I will gladly take my night in jail, or whatever they want to do to smash someone who disrespects the flag enough. Now in a stadium there really is nothing you can do. But if I was ever in public, and saw someone disrespecting our flag, or worse yet giving someone who has served this country shit, God help the person cause I would absolutely lose it. JMHO, yours may differ ;)

Sticking to my example, Iraqis also had the freedom to do anything they wanted as long as they were willing to live, or die, with the consequences. You contradicted yourself though. You say you're willing to take your night in jail (It would actually be more than that) but then you say there is nothing you can do in a stadium. Is that because there are too many people there. If you're doing what's "right" and the "good outweighs the bad", wouldn't it be best to do it in front of a whole stadium full of people to prove a point to all?

So freedom is only ok if everyone thinks and acts the same as you? Back to my hypocrisy point...

That is the way it is. When presenting colors the service flag is dipped below the National Ensign (American Flag).

I'm an Active Duty veteran. Every time I hear the national anthem at a special event, I get VERY emotional. When the music plays, I think back to my personal experiences I've been through during my six years of hardships and sacrifices. Then I start to think about the men who fought for our country in the past and present wars. All... fighting for that flag I'm standing in front of. The symbol for freedom, liberty and Americana.

I was raised to respect the flag, as should every American citizen. It's a shame to hear about these people.

Typically state flags are flown on a shorter pole than the national flag too. If there is only one pole, the state flag hangs below the national flag.

Bingo!!! There is the magic answer. You were raised to be better than those scumbags. I assume you will raise your children the same. I was also raised that way and plan to teach my children respect. Beating these clowns up for practicing their freedom to be retards will not gain anyone any ground.

    Thanks for your service.

Yes it pisses me off when people do cr@p like this.

It's when people don't give a damn about what the flag stands for, is when people stop caring about this country and it's rich history. And when this happens, it gets weak from the inside, and it possible falls apart or gets destroyed from within. We are already seeing this, in my view.

At least that's my "crazy" opinion or guess on the whole situation. Hope I'm wrong.

right i always knew that the highest flag flown was the American Flag i just never noticed them dip it below like that. i just thought it was a nifty thing to notice after 20 years of life lol. I saw that you have the Coast Guard symbol on your avatar. One of my buddies just got out of basic for the Coast Guard and is doing his libo time with the recruiter right now. I think he wants to try to dive
