Well I’ve decided to get rid of my Subaru sooner rather than later. So I went to test drive a Tacoma this morning. I was kind of disappointed.

I felt like I couldn’t see out the windshield very well. It felt like I was sitting too low and couldn’t see over the hood. I’m not tall only 5’ 1” so I guess it was to be expected. Just s far cry from the 02 Tundra I had. It felt like you sat on top of that thing instead of inside. It probably would have helped if I could have raised the seat up...

The seat was overall fairly comfortable which was nice. I was expecting the seat bottoms to be too long for me like most vehicles. That’s one thing I loved about the Forester, it feels like they designed the seats for shorter people lol.

It also had a strange feeling almost like the torque converter couldn’t decide if it should be locked or not while cruising around 50 mph.

The salesman didn’t help either by forcing me to drive their predetermined route. I’m kind of bummed because I really wanted to like this truck.

Welcome. If you don't like it on a test drive then look at something else. That is a no brainer. Tacomas are not for everyone but 20K people a month buy one new lol.

They have aluminum spacers to go under the seat and lift you up. You can find them under the 3rd Gen for sale section. If you want ANYTHING for the truck, everything is available to change and improve

Happy you test drove and found out you didn't like it instead of buying and being upset with the purchase

I absolutely hated the seat when I bought it where it was so bad to the point i was like oh shit I fucked up by buying this truck. I think the foam in the seat wasnt broken in but after a few weeks I think it finally broke in. Love the truck, each time I'm about to get in it to drive I'm like damn im glad I bought this truck

That’s interesting I’ll have to look into that. I wonder if they’d throw them under the seat and let me test drive it like that before buying. I liked the way it drove. It had good power and handled well.
There were a few times though where I felt I just couldn’t over the hood too well. It probably didn’t help that it was a sport with the hood scoop lol. I guess I was expecting a similar seating position to my 02 Tundra.

    I really
I liked how solid the seats felt. That how the Subaru was when it was new. I think my problem was just not sitting up high enough.

Which model did you drive? If it was a TRD sport, I can see where the scoop could pose a sight line issue for shorter drivers.

But like someone else said, go with your gut with respect to how it feels. Not all vehicles are for everyone.

    I
Test drive an off road or SR5 and bring a cushion with you.

But my instinct would be to pass on the truck and test drive a colorado instead. Don't force yourself to make a bad decision based on what you wanted the experience to be like. Thats how we end up with the same 10 "Transmission sucks/Drum Brakes/No power/40k truck!" threads every day

Oh there will be some mods all right

Predetermined routes are so stupid. Before I got my Tacoma I test drove a Frontier, and the route was 3 left turns and 2 right turns. How am I suppose to know if I like a vehicle after driving it for like 5 minutes... Rant over, hope you find a vehicle that makes you happy.

I wouldn’t expect them to put spacers in before letting you test drive it. You are probably better of just grabbing an encyclopedia or biology textbook to boost you up an inch or two which would be the same difference.

If you still don’t like it, look at other trucks like the Colorado or Frontier and see what you think.

I did ask to sit in the SR5 I could see a little better but the angle looking over the hood felt weird. I did test drive a Colorado I felt I could see well out of it. It felt pretty comparable to the Tacoma interns of power and handling. I just don’t like the styling too much.
I know it’s not in the same class but I did like the Silverado I test drove.

Yeah I wouldn’t either especially at the dealer I went to. Idk what it was about them but I just didnt feel comfortable around any of them. I know it’s their job to sell you their car but I felt I couldn’t have a conversation about the pros and cons of the Tacoma with them. I was hoping for a more open conversation like I had at the Chevy garage.

Toyota has a rental program. I rented a DCSB sport from a dealership for a day, cost me $60 and I really got a feel if I’d want to pay 40k. And I’m glad I did, I love my truck
