So I’ve been wanting a tonneau cover for a little while and today my wife said I need one and I have her blessing to buy one :D

I searched for some threads here, but only really found onesies and twosies in the buy/sell/trade and not much advice as far as brands and type go. I’m not very much interested in the roll up ones, as my dad used to have one and it seemed cheap and time consuming to utilize. I’m interestedin a trifold one, especially a hard one. I love the retractable ones but they’re out of my price range.

Any recommendations in the $200-$300 range?

Gunna be really hard to find a hard tri fold in that price range. Keep checking the market on here and maybe Facebook or craigslist

Thanks for the feedback. What about a soft trifold?

The tonneua pro are nice cover for the money. I had one on my 2nd gen for 5 years that held up great to pa winters and snow. Father in law has one on his 3rd gen for the last year and it still looks brand new.

I've lived with the trip-fold soft tops on a few of my trucks and prefer it to the heavy ones, but it all comes down to what you need it for. If I have to remove mine somewhere, it comes off easy and fits in my back seat.

They even hold up well in the winter, but mine is garage kept.

I am very happy with my tonneau cover. It is Lund Genesis Elite model, trifold soft cover. It's been on my 2017 AC Tacoma for about 8 months. Very secure. Zero leaks. The "Elite" model uses a premium cover material manufactured by the Harrtz Co., which produces materials for OEM convertible tops. The Elite material has a woven appearance like you would see on a convertible top on a luxury car. Lund also makes a regular Genesis Elite trifold, which uses a vinyl material, and is more within your stated price range.

Many detailed YouTube videos on the product and its installation. It went on fairly easy. Also, simple to remove and reinstall. It attaches to the OEM rails in the bed utilizing a clamp system. No need to drill or otherwise modify the truck.

I am sure there are other good products out there. Lund is the only one I have direct experience with.

I sold my OEM cover for $400 locally. You’ll need to swap rail covers and pins, but it’s really easy.

I like the OEM cover. I’d look on CL. One will come up eventually with as many Tacoma’s are out there.

Found one on fb marketplace new in box. He wanted $150 but talked him down to $120. I put 6k Miles since installing. Held up fantastic on my cross country trip.
Drive 90 mph and stays in place.

Looks nice for a cheap and easily removable tonneau. Installed in 5 minutes.9A2C373D-0E9B-4713-AD55-0947F196853D.jpg

I absolutely Loved my Extang Full-tilt. I had a small tear; 4 days later, replacement material. This was 8 yrs after I bought it, and my fault. Not sure what they run these days. They seemed to have the longest warranty compared to most others at this point. I have a guy local if you were close to Lancaster, PA - he's selling one for $300. Barely used.

    A bunch....
Can't help you with the folding cover, nor with the price range, but in the future you might consider a Pace-Edwards "Jackrabbit" rolling & locking cover. It's about four times what you're looking to spend this time around, but it's secure. Container mounts up top at the front, leaving about half the bed depth available under it. Cover is padded vinyl over aluminum, key locking with detents about every foot for partial closing. I need that type because I keep my "ohshit" bag in the back of the bed strapped to my AMP BedExtender.

Easy peasy - TonnoPro Trifold ~$200 to $300 depending on sale or vendor. https://www.tonnopro.com/cms/tonnofold. I have had one on my truck for almost 2 years, my pops has one his on his Tundra since 2011 and another on his older Tacoma. For the money it is great, easy on easy off, holds up great. It held the snow great for NH winters and keeps my bed pretty damn dry. I HIGHLY recommend this cover, especially for the money.

(NO, I do not work for them, just a review)

EDIT: This is where wifey got mine for 2016 christmas https://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/tonnopro-tonnofold-tri-fold-tonneau-cover

It's not a hard one, but I had a Gator Trifold for awhile.... it was $250 new. My neighbor bought it for his 2018 Taco recently. It's a good tonneau, keeps stuff dry and out of sight. It is lockable via the tailgate. I sold it because my end game was a camper shell.

I greatly prefer the shell, but the tonneau was handy until I could afford it.

I could use some help too.if anyone knows the bed dimensions of third gens I've been searching the forms and even online sites say 5', 5'2", 5'3" etc... In the process of looking at tonneau covers I've decided the hard tri-fold is the best for me. Here's the catch sizing I want to get one off Craigslist but there's nothing local. The closest/best options appear to be the twin cities Minnesota area. I am 4.5 hours away.. but I have both a friend and sister who live near there that will be coming back to my area in a week or two. So free delivery there!

I drive a 2016 DCSB OR with the utility track deck rails, but not the bed trim that has cut outs along the top.

I need one that won't leak much, and soft vinyl has been eliminated because I'm afraid someone might cut it. I need to store snowboarding and ski patrol gear all winter in the bed.

There are three options I'm currently weighing. I've listed them below in order best deal first I think..

    1. Retractable aluminum cover.. they say it's off a 2008 short bed but the image shown is a third gen double cab sb Tacoma.. o_O
    https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/pts/d/roll-lock-pace-edwards/6688948718.html

    2. Access Lomax trifold hard tonneau the seller has it shown on a TRD pro of some sort I think by looking at the tail lights. $550 in the listing, but $400 on the post title since it's been up awhile.
    https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/pts/d/toyota-tacoma-tonneau-and/6660162756.html

    3. Factory tonneau yet again says a different sizing... Very minimal information, also don't know if rails are included etc. $500. Does it really leak like people say with rain..?
    https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/pts/d/toyota-tacoma-factory-tonneau/6669670232.html

Thanks in advance for people's help!
