To be honest, the only thing I really think sucks on this Bison is the body mounted rock sliders. I wouldn't even call them rock sliders.

Kinda like the Limited Slip Differential they stick in the Tacomas..... it ain't a Limited Slip Differential. It's an open diff with traction control.

That 46K price (if CDN) can't be updated for the ZR2 option. That would be 35K USD for a ZR2. Nope.

If it WAS accurate, I'd be on the next plane to Canada to buy one.

Reliability is not subjective. Japanese vehicles are not more reliable than some other nation's.

It's not Japanese manufacturers; it's just Toyota.

Toyota has historically made the most reliable cars and nearly every survey shows this. The "Toyota tax" on high mileage used vehicles is another piece of evidence. Car owners in the harshest environments (Africa/Middle East/ Australia) seem to be the most loyal Toyota customers, which is another piece of evidence. Do a national search of cars for sale with 300K miles or more, and a significant number of vehicles will be Toyotas (or Lexus vehicles).

Toyota earned it's reputation, but the other manufactures have closed the gap.

People act like modern GM trucks don't make to 150K miles on stock components. Most people don't even keep their cars more than 5 years. They just perpetually finance/lease vehicles until they die.

I have personally experienced Toyota's great reliability with my previous two vehicles, and I will continue to buy Toyota because of my experience with the brand. However, Toyota's reliability is not the strong selling point that it was in the 90s and early 00's. Everyone makes reliable vehicles now.

I think the 70's - early 80's were a low point for the US manufacturers reliability wise.

Things have certainly improved, and most of the US branded vehicles I have owned have served me well.

Since my habit is to buy new and keep vehicles until they are scrap, I have come to understand that "reliability" mostly comes into play after 100k on the odometer.

My Dodge truck was scrap worthy at 19 years/ 200k- pretty good as far as I am concerned.

Our Subaru is about to turn 18, and has about 220k on the odometer, and still is running strong.

I work on it from time to time and am surprised how easy it is changing parts.

My old truck required advance applications of PB Blaster and usually a torch to un-stick rusted bolts.

Anecdotal to be sure, but I see a difference in overall quality between the Subaru and all the cars owned before that.

Whether the Tacoma will last as long or longer is unknown.

Not really that concerned, since it is a mechanical device and subject to break eventually.

But for now, the Tacoma is a nice solid little truck, and I am happy I didn't go with GM.

I'm not sure why you're doubting me, I live in Canada and I can assure you that is the price for a crew cab zr2. You can add options like roll bar, navigation, etc etc. But this is what they cost. My local dealer has 2 with a few options with freight and PDI they're $49,xxx

Here's the one at my local dealer, the sports bar and cat back exhaust ad several thousand, which is why it's a little more $

I guess because I haven't seen a ZR2 cheaper than 55K (Canadian) in the US. Those are some amazing prices.

You are absolutely right. Gone are the days where reliability was defined as engines failing completely or wiring issues that interfered with the daily operation of the vehicle (lots of vehicles up through the 80's fit this description though - mostly the big 3). I personally define reliability today as 'well engineered for the life of the vehicle". In other words, I should not be replacing window regulators at 50K miles, or replace engine parts (alternators, starters, sensors, etc.) prior to 100K. That is not good enough. Toyota has had some crappy quality vehicles though. Anyone that owned a RAV4 between 2004 and 2015 knows what I am talking about.

This may already be addressed in a thread, but I may have missed it. I personally don’t like Chevy, but what you like is what you like and that’s fine. But I’m starting to see why Toyota is either making strange decisions like the new Pro’s raised intake or where others are getting their ideas from. Toyota shouldn’t be threatened by this truck, but interesting to see the similarities in the new Pro and the ZR-2 Bison’s extra appendage.

...and when it gets stuck because it doesn't have Crawl Control to help, a Tacoma can pull it back out!

Are they still bolting those "rock sliders" to the rocker panel?

I like how my snorkel looks, and it pulls air from up high vs dusty dirty hot air from inside the wheel well

It's still a third-party mod kit to the truck, as opposed to something factory. I can go get a kit to put on my truck to make the same upgrades...and I'll STILL have Crawl Control to get the Colorado unstuck!
