To me, it's just another failure point and I don't see the point in being both weld/bolt on aside from touching them up, but that's very easy to do on the truck with a little prep work.

I wasn’t aware the frame was laminated steel. Has it always been so on Tacoma’s?

Well, if you sold the truck, you could leave the sockets behind and still have sliders for your next build, without having to cut them short?

    I see your point.

I’d love to see the look on the next owners face when he finally has a look under the truck.......WTF are these for?!!!

haha! I'm glad you understood my point. The benefit of bolt on is easily removable to resell or whatever, but with the weldbolt on, you'd still need to cut off the bases and the slider buyer would need new ones, or reuse old.

Yep. Just look at the inside of your frame rails.

 don't sas your truck if you are scared of cutting or welding on to the frame. I have done a lot of frame welding, and have seen how much paint burns off on the inside between the layers.

    1) 30 minutes would clearly not include prep time, alignment time, clean up time, etc. Sure it's minimized if you are already setup for welding and it doesn't take long to get going. But be fair and include overhead time. Pure arc time might be 30 minutes, but add all the other time too.

    2) I'm not so certain that they are 'stronger' and distribute weight better. Some of the newer bolt on designs have 3/8" plate covering a good bit of the frame. That's likely to distribute weight better than 4 weld points. With good hardware, you've essentially beefed up the frame above the original design specs.

    3) Do bolt-ons come with drawback? Yep. A bit of maintenance and checking to make sure they are still on solid (which in theory you don't need to do with weld-on versions). And extra cost if the comparable weld version (plus welding cost) is cheaper. But the benefits outweigh the costs in my mind.

A neat concept at first but the more you think about it, it’s pretty useless. At least imo.
