I'm curious as to whether I can run my RecTec trailblazer with my bed outlet. RecTec says it uses 350w for the first 5min, then 100w continuous.
Is that enough info to go on? I see the outlet is rated for 400w, just wanted to be sure.

It’s 400W when the truck is running and 100W when in drive from what I’ve read.

I've been doing some more reading and it looks like our inverters don't provide clean enough power for this. It could burn up the auger or ignitor rod.

Maybe put in a heavy duty inverter and thicker wiring? I've been contemplating doing that to mine.

I may end up doing that. I can just as easily pack a charcoal or gas grill though.

The bed outlet does not work at all without the engine running. It’s 400W when idling, and 100W when driving around.

False, I've had 100W with the ignition on and the truck not running. Is it good for the battery though, probably not.

Truth of life: There is always a bigger nerd.

You are correct, but c’mon, sitting with your ignition on and all of the vehicle systems energized, with the engine not running, is kinda for wankers.

:fistbump: It's cool, only reason I knew this, before reading it in other threads, was because I needed to "fast charge" my phone to get some quick battery life, but I didn't have a DC fast charger...lol I only did it for about 20 minutes.

With all the discussion above, how about a Webber Charcoal Grill with some wood chips..... sounds much easier.

    And tastes better

Just smoked some salmon on the Weber kettle yesterday. Pork shoulder the week before. So good.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I've come to.

At home I use an electric smoker.... I call it lazy Q as it's so easy to hold temp. It makes some beautiful and tasty meats. All you need is smoke and the ability to hold temps.... I'm sure you can do that with a pellet grill.

I also use a Weber Kettle for grilling..... and some smoking. It can hold temps pretty well, but not as well as that electric smoker.

Anyway, I only said the Weber because you can do quite a bit with it and the fuel is readily available most anywhere. I just don't see you getting the power needed from the outlet on the truck. I'm not biased against any grill as you can make awesome food on anything provided it'll hold temps for you.

I'll also plug this fella since we are talking a little about cooking. Good stuff, tons of tasty recipes, and the boy can cook!

I have a traeger, weber smokey mountain and a regular weber grill. They all have their place but I'm selling both smokers for a full electric for the exact reasons you describe. Easy to hold temp and easy to start. I still will keep my big weber grill if I really want to "true" smoke some meats.

They are stupid easy to operate. If you get a Masterbuilt, they also have good customer support in case you need to replace parts. Mine will hold 275F and you can touch the sides while running. It holds in heat well.

I still want to get a Primo or a Big Green Egg in the future, but that'll be for doing other things. If I want a brisket, pork shoulder, ribs..... it'll probably be done on the electric.

Make sure you get the 40 and not the 30 if you are getting Masterbuilt. The 30 is just too small. Also, don't trust the Bluetooth on the grill if it comes with. It gets confused when you get out of range. Get a thermo pro alarm or a chef alarm.

I was thinking of either the masterbuilt or charbroil. The charbroil is set up for a temp. probe for the meat as well, but I'm still concerned about the build quality.

My RecTec is great. Internal probe, plus two meat probes and wifi control. Easily hits 650F for searing, plus I use grates to help.
