Are you sure? Because “making it back” Is definitely part of the “better off-roader” criteria. And it’s cool that you like jeeps, but for what I consider fun, a Jeep wouldn’t be suitable. So my vote is that the Tacoma is a better off roader. That’s not a fact, it’s just my say.

Just like what you say is also not a fact.

Lol. Bringing the dude who chopped his truck up to make it as capabale as a Jeep on 37s and a basic lift... more straw man. The Jeep has better approach angles, departure angles, and solid front axle. that is what makes it more capable, not what you’re willing to do with it. I’ve wheeled my truck, several of my TJs, my built JKUR on 35s, various XJs... the Tacoma doesn’t hold a candle to them.

It's an '88 YJ with the venerable AMC 258. No way would I ever buy a new one.

Sorry you suck in your Tacoma, maybe you need better lines.

Again... my wheeling skills isn’t what makes it more capable.

To be fair, this is a Taco forum so obviously the responses will be based on Taco owners. Post this in the JL/JK forum and the response will be totally different.

I've owned 2 gens of Tacos over my lifetime and now in the market and have come down to these.
    - 2018/19 Sports Taco
    - 2018 JL Wrangler (with the new 4 cl turbo engine)
    - 2019 Ford Ranger

Test drove both the Wrangler and Taco (sports and Offroad models) but the Wrangler is lot FASTER/responsive than the aging Taco V6. However, it drives too much like a car while the Taco drives like a truck for what it is..I prefer truck like driving if I'm buying a truck..haha.
And the Rubi Wrangler is the BEST off-road looking vehicle on the street. However, Taco is more practical. We rented the Sports Wrangler in Hawaii on vacation this summer and I drove it through beach/mud/off roads and it performed like a champ. And very comfortable for 2 adults and 2 kids with backpacks, etc.

I have no rush (have a X5 diesel with 80k miles and running strong) but going to wait out the Ranger (my local dealer is getting demo end of this month). I've driven the diesel Ranger in New Zealand/Aussie a lot of times during vacation and it's a very comparable truck and its good that Ford is bringing it back to the US market now (no diesel though).

Good thing is I can always fall back to the Taco and probably pick up a discounted 2018 model by end of this year if I don't settle on either the Wrangler or the Ranger.

Both have their strengths. But to say a Tacoma is as capable as a Jeep off-road, that's laughable. And I love Tacoma's.

I think the ceiling is higher on the Jeep, Tacoma can handle anything up to 8 maybe slightly higher, after that Jeeps start to take over but most Jeeps I've seen on 9-10 are extremely built or ready for damage. Most people are not running 8-10 trails, they are running moderate trails that are 5-7, actually most are running 3-5 at best and the few of us run 5-7

For example, I wont run a Tacoma in Carnage Canyon but neither will your run-of-the-mill bolt on Jeep JK.

    Not much Jeep left.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that 23mpg but I know I’ll be getting better fuel economy regardless when I personally make the switch. I’ve never driven a vehicle with both front and rear axles locked with a disconnected sway. I’m super excited to test it out offroad and see how it does.
