Yeah, i have my fingers crossed as some people who paid via debit card have received $$ back from their banks. I need to call mine today and see how the dispute is going.

I definitely noticed cigs taking their toll on my breathing but somehow I managed to still play hockey and stay really active in my 20s.. could have been even better w/out the smoking though. I was one of those odd cases where I could still stay pretty active. What really got me to quit was 2 things mostly...the cost (cigs and nicotine products add up SO fast) and the fact that I was turning into a really irritable and hard to be around person if I didn't get my nicotine fix when I wanted it. Really is a pretty terrible lifestyle.

I am also at fault for choosing nicotine. Smoked for a long time. I used to have a cigarette as I left my car suited up to go surf haha. Ahh the 20s. Shortness of breath, cost, and the truth ads on tv made my mind up. One of the few regrets I have. Pretty sure it will catch up with me.

I dunno, my father smoked at least a pack a day or more since he was 14 until he and my mom divorced at 50. Been 10 years now and his doc says he's healthy as most any other man his age that hasn't smoked. The body can do some pretty amazing things (and recover) when treated right

The human body is both amazingly resilient, yet fragile at the same time.

While there are plenty of anecdotes similar to your father's, the statistics are frighteningly clear. Medical science still doesn't even fully understand the links. I'd like to see more studies being done on people like your father who seem to be bucking that statistical trend.

But to be honest, "being as healthy as most men his age" (at least in America) isn't exactly a high bar. As a country, we're pretty fat and out of shape, lol...

Yeah I know, that's why I put it in that perspective lol...he could still use a much better diet and less alcohol intake, but comparatively he's in good shape and I have no doubt that if he had continued his pack a day habit, he might not be here today.

He does crazy 10+ mile hikes every weekend with his wife and he and I climbed Mt. Whitney last summer (highest mountain in the contiguous US). It damn near killed me but he was mostly fine, although he did take about 4 more hours than I did.

I nicknamed him 'La Tortuga' because of how slow he goes on his hikes, but he always finishes the race

this is what a CA frame looks like with literally NO maintenance.

That surface rust is from 6 years of tires rubbing the frame.

oooh ooh I want to post a frame pic, should've seen mine when I got it 2 years ago...you could see your reflection in it, it was so clean and shiny like it was transported through time from 04.

Now, it's it just as good of shape still but dirty as hell...I should wash it first then post pics

    That's blasphemy!

My wife and I did Whitney a few summers ago with her dad. Well, we attempted it. Wife got sick at 13,000 (of course right at the top of the switchbacks) and we turned around.

My dad got us a prescription for Diamox which we took the day before and the 2 days that we were hiking/camping...which I think probably helped a lot. Was supposed to help prevent altitude sickness. Once we reached the final climb to the summit (after the 99 switchbacks) I started feeling it; getting dizzy almost like you were drunk and feeling a little nauseous. It never got any worse though so I continued and then it got better by the time I made it back down the summit to trail camp.

We passed by this dude though on the way to the summit that had attempted it at night and succumbed to altitude sickness, he was being treated by a medic when we got to him but he was unconscious and seizing/foaming at the mouth...it was intense. A helicopter came in and dropped one of those pressure chamber pods that they put him in and the medic and his family hiked him down to where the helicopter landed and flew him out...no idea if he made it or not. Was crazy
