General disappointment with All Pro front plate bumper quality

This is more of a FYI than anything. I installed the All Pro front plate bumper back in August of 2009 (about 10 months ago) and was, at first, very happy with my purchase. I put it together, installed it and was nothing but grins. It allowed me to manipulate my front wheel location, adding clearance upon full stuff with the fenders and cab mounts.

I was washing the truck on Friday and took a close look at the bumper and the powder coat is blistering like crazy! The edges of the bumper are sharp and the powder coat doesn't have anything to stick to. It is lifting up in large sheets and there is rust below the powder coat. I'm probably going to have to pay to have it sand blasted and then re-powder coated.

I originally wanted the Shrockworks bumper, but didn't want to wait 11 or so weeks for it. The All Pro was a 2-4 week wait, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Unless All Pro has changed their powder coating in the last 10 months, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere for a front bumper. Paying good money for a bumper, then having to deal with hassles like this just sucks!

Again, I'm not looking for anything "free" from All Pro, nor do I think it's my responsibility to call them to complain. I'd rather share my less than fortunate experience with everyone and let you all make your own decisions about which front bumper you should put your hard earned money towards.

UPDATE: Turns out there was a bad batch of Powder Coat about a year ago. I was one of the unlucky recepients. AP said their powder coater is standing behind their work and AP is offering to help. I'll update the thread again if/when the problem is solved. Photos sent to AP on 6-14-2010 via PM...
LOOKS LIKE All Pro is doing all that can be expected (and more).

 

I can't seem to find it but I'm sure someone else had this exact same issue with the company. I believe they made everything right. I'd at least e-mail them and try. Hopefully someone else can chime in. Sorry to hear about that issue but thanks for sharing it. Keep us updated

 

you should try to contact them and see if they will warranty the bumper.if they screw you around than bash them to no end on the internet

 

Have you considered rattle canning it yourself that way if you mess it up off road it's a quick touch up job?

 

I have a similar problem as well. The powder coat has been coming off in alot of places and rust is starting to develop, mine is not that old either. I have not contacted them yet. This thing will cost some $$ and time to get repainted professionally. For now I have been using the rattle can method to stop from rusting.

Contact the company first and give them a chance to make it right. Every company has a bad day, and a few bumpers could have made it out with a defect.

If they don't take care of you, then post it out onto the internet for the masses to see. You know any damage you do to their reputation can't be repaired very easily. Try to give them a chance first.

Hmmm I have been eyeballing the all-pros for awhile now... Maybe its a sign I don't need to spend money. Just want to.

All too many times I see people hop on the computer while pissed and bash a company, but when the company makes things right, they always seem to fail to correct the wrong they have made. Please do keep us posted.

 

electrostatic paint, I think would be the best solution,the powder coat.. not hold so much or long.. have here the same problem...

All pro has been receiving alot of complaints lately, the positive side is that they do things to make it up, though not necessarily fix the original problem.

I'm not too familiar with powdercoating and it's characteristics but if you Offroad I would expect paint to chip from rocks. The chips leave an open bumper which allows rust to start and spread?

Is powdercoating supposed to be super durable?

 

Agreed- That stuff sticks to anything- Hootus' included.

Doesn't make the fact that he paid for the powdercoat suck any less. Doesn't seem like the OP wants anything specific from them...so hopefully this is good/fair info about the product.

Not super durable- More durable than paint- but harder to repair. A simple chip or deep gouge means the piece needs to be media blasted and recoated.

This isn't the first time I have heard this about the powder coating on the All Pro bumpers.

If I had a front steel bumper I would have it Line-X'd as mentioned before. I know it's a little costly but it will never have to be repainted again.

 

That sucks. I just ordered Demello sliders and paid to get them powdercoated. It was a discounted price so it wasn't too bad but now I think I shouldve just used that money toward a linex job. O well.

Honestly- I thought about some Line-X on my sliders. And I still am. Only concern I had was how it'll feel on skin and/or treat clothes.

The rattle can that I used works great. Touch up is a bit of a pain cause I have to get a cardboard box and tape off a bit.

Roll on Herculiner is probably the way to go if you want to bed line yours. Easy to patch and repair at home if needed.
