Let's See Some Softoppers

theres a couple of install vids on youtube. i bought mine used, so it was already assembled, but the install was really straight forward.

 

truck like that, does it really matter what color the topper is? it will still look good with a bright pink topper.

 

Any white 2nd gens with the black and tan softtopper? Trying to decide on a color and don't feel like going through all 193 pages haha

Does anyone with a softtopper have a good method for tool mounts. Specifically for a shovel and/or axe. I made some that mounted in the accessory rails, but with the frame of the softtopper these no longer work. The softtopper frame makes it hard to mount the tools and if I leave my diy mounts in the rails they interfere with the lowering of the softtopper.

If anyone has any solutions I would love to see them.

 

I am pretty sure I have the cheapest Bestop that has ever been bought. I got mine on Monday for 60 dollars.

Does anyone have secrets to making it dark black again? I was thinking about getting some convertible top restorer, then using scotchgard or some clear coat to protect it.

 

How old is your Softopper?

 

Prevention is best when it comes to issues like this. Outside of a dye you will not be able to put color back into a topper.
Oil based products just give it a wet appearance but don’t truly restore color.
Plus a lot of those products will not last long and may run off in the rain leaving marks on your paint.

I would see if there is a dye product you can use on it to get it black. They must make something for restoring classic cars.

Coat your topper in a good UV protectant 1-2 times a year to prevent any more UV damage.

 

In addition to the UV protectant ( I actually apply every couple of months) be sure not to leave dirt, mud, or dust on the topper for any extended period of time. It doesn't take long before you build up stains. I owned a jeep prior to the tacoma and I was kind of lazy with cleaning off the mud and I ended up with stains that were pretty much impossible to clean.

 

My detailer used a product called "hydrofoam".
It protects and moisterizes.
Tops a few years old when we had the big group buy. Prior to the hydro foam, I just washed it good with mild soap and used a spray on silicon.
Only warm, mild dish soap used on the f/r plastic.

 

I would not use a silocone product on the topper at all. It will prevent any future products from sticking to the material and will be difficult to remove.
Not to mention the risk of getting it on your paint
