if a boss asked me to put company stuff in my personal vehicle I'd tell him to start paying the financing and insurance lol.

Personal vehicle go fuck yourself. Want me to move material give me a company vehicle.
I did it in the past fuck that. Then when something gets damaged in your car or truck from transporting it (in my case a ripped seat) they do fuck all for you.

    • If whatever you are carrying damages your truck, employer won't cover it.
    • If you get into an accident on the road, your insurance won't cover all the work materials, tools, and equipment.
Basically doing this occasionally is low risk. Doing this regularly can cause problems. Charging $0.54/km is fair, since it covers the average cost of fuel, insurance, wear & tear, maintenance, depreciation, etc. based on gov't data.

could even be turned around to the point where if your insurance is not to cover your vehicle as a work vehicle and you get in an accident and they find you were transporting stuff for work they could deny you coverage as it was not coverage for a 'work' vehicle.

Insurance is not in the business of paying. If they can find a way not to they will.

That's why it's good to have them be aware you have a lift etc .Not covered if you don't want but just aware so they can't deny your coverage in the event something happened.

The insurance company is not an expert in judging whether your mods are road-legal. When in doubt, take your truck through a MOT safety inspection. This way you have a certificate showing your truck is roadworthy in compliance with Ontario regs. I did it a few years ago when I bought out my truck at lease end, because of the title transfer, so my bumper, lift, sliders, etc. are certified roadworthy. :) I do declare my mods with my insurer and purchased additional coverage though.

its not a matter of legality in road conditions its a matter of discrepancy with policy.
    It can happen.

I've seen guys with modified cars get fucked. and I was suggested it by a friend and after running it by my broker she agreed its good to have it documented. Not in the case of not having the vehicle covered in damage as that would be nothing compared to the cost if someone was injured or killed and they decide not to cover you because its not the vehicle the thought they were covering. And in legality sakes its well within their right to do so.

And road legal means fuck all for insurance making sure they cover you. Right hand drive is legal in canada but good luck finding insurance for it. It all comes down to the underwriters. Obviously they wont insure something that isn't road legal but just because its road legal doesn't mean it will be insured by your exact policy.
and Josh @NeonHeights just sold his truck because of something like this. With his 8" lift he decided to have his insurance be aware of it to make sure he is covered and then they dropped him as they said they do not insure over 3" of lift. And he sold it cause he couldn't find anyone willing to insure him.

For mine they just wanted proof it was installed by a certified mechanic

You will see me sooner in the new Ranger Raptor rather than chevy...

1" lift + 265s is all most ever need on trails.
