Most likely a good move if this thing hits as strong as they say. I rode out Hurricane Andrew on 23/24 August 1992 and was thinking we were going to die.

I was a kid when Andrew hit. Me and my friends earned a bunch of money picking up limbs and stuff in all the neighbors yards. We didn't ask for any money they just paid us.

Yeah, but just as Andrew it turned south at the last minute as it was to go north. Just be safe prepared for whatever you do.

Tell me about it. Gas stations are Ludacris. Only gas left is the high octane expensive stuff. :smack:

NC after I think our Ice storm in 2003 had price gouging happen in an astonomical rate and created new policies to prevent it. The gas station I go to all the time said that their normal Mon delivery never showed and they can't get a hold of the driver or the company that delivers. I trust the ladies behind the counter when they told me that. Now why is a good question since they don't even know.

Perks of working for the DoD. I dont get to bugger until all the jets are gone. Ugh. Going to be the best/worst Hurrication to date. Traveling in 2 cars with 4 dogs, 1 cat and a 2 yr old. Going to be SIK! Good thing is that I already have an BnB lined up in Gatlinburg. The wife is stressing over it, truth be had, I'm stressing over it too. Topped my 34 Gal LRA gas tank up this afternoon. I can squeeze ~480 miles out of it squeezing the seat between my cheeks but its the parking lot on 26 that I'll be more stressed about. Rumor told me that last year it took some people 8 hrs to go 100 miles and that's not cool, especially with the funny farm I'll be wagon training with. #MilitaryLyfe Edit: Also heard from the neighbor that some were sitting in traffic for 36 hrs. NOPE

That's a whole bunch of nope. Wish y'all the best and hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you. Military doesn't have any sort of contingency plan for you? I never had to go through a disaster while I was I'm but I figure they'd have shelters and whatnot to maintain as mission ready as possible.

We do, sorta, and to be honest, we're pretty good at what we do. Without going into too much details here as I honestly don't know how deep down the rabbit hole I can go. But we have maintenance teams that will leave on the aircraft and there are maintenance teams on the ground that have to launch those jets. I am on the latter team. So once all our assigned aircraft are gone, I can go on my stressful hurrication with my family. I would rather be on the road first thing tomorrow but alas, I have to get the birds in the air which puts more civilian traffic on the road, hence the traffic delays. Not cool. Like an estimated 1 million vehicular modes of travel on the roads. I honestly hope the storm keeps tracking north but that would be selfish of me. Gotta embrace the suck! Edit, full of edits: There's also the ride out team that stays on base to gets to maintain base security and start the cleanup process so first responders can get to downed utilities.

Sounds like you're a crew chief or other flightline related AFSC. I was AGE so I know all about getting birds in the air. Hope everything goes to plan and goes quick so y'all get out of there ASAP.

Nodnod. It's just a reference to movies like Escape from NY and Escape from LA. Ben Raines books, stuff like that.

See that's the side I never saw. We never had serious weather events to worry about so just normal operations, TDYs, Deployments etc.
