After over a decade of hard use, the plug stripped out the case threads. I re-threaded the case, but I'd rather just install a valve and never worry about the threads again. Only issue I have, is the fumoto valve protrudes below the frame rails. So I want to cover it with the skid, protecting it. I'll just remove the plate when I change the oil.

 

Looking to build a bed rack in the near future. What type of budget tube bender would you all recommend?

 

The only time I use lube is when I’m cutting solid stock of any kind, had to cut some 1” steel and the lube did help. You can also get tons of blades off of Amazon, different teeth and what not

 

Got the high clearance rear finished minus the paint and electrical junk. Turned out nice if I do say so myself.

 

I’ll have to get my scale out here when I take it off again. But I’d venture a guess to say not much more than the stock bumper with hitch. I installed it by myself... with some difficulty. Haha.

 

I’d very much like a pair. Problem is just the sheet height after you make a high clearance bumper on a lifted truck. Much easier install with another person.

I plan to paint it with rustoleum primer and matte black paint. I’ve had great success with the durability of that combination for sliders and skids.

 

Got it, yeah that valve is pretty long. and depending on how far you screw it in since it's a metric pipe thread.

I used bedliner for my front bumper and don’t like it. Didn’t hold up like it should’ve. At some point it’ll come off and be coated with the same stuff I’ve been using. Good thing is my front bumper is aluminum so all the peeling isn’t going to cause my bumper to rust.

 

Depends what I cut it has been quite some time since I had the portable band saw out of the box.

on my Carolina I always spray the blade guides each use with what ever cheap spray lube I pick up on sale .

On bar or square stock over a inch I spray the piece I am cutting while cutting

I am more careful of not cutting through rust or welds

 

So I did some estimating, the bumper weighs a maximum of 130 pounds. Did the estimation using material density along with material used. Chances are its closer to 110 to 120 if I had to guess.

 

Not bad. Mine weighs closer to 160#.

 

Remember what bed liner you used? Was it primed/scuffed before application? I thought about it on an ARB wench bumper would be sweet, but now your'e making me 2nd guess...

Not going to lie.. on huge cuts I've just taped the tube wax to the bar and let her sail. Haha.

 

Used rustoleum bedliner I think. It’s been a couple years. But yeah, material was cleaned and scuffed. Applied primer and all that. Looked good for a while but faded from UV exposure. I did use a clear coat as well, didn’t seem to help.

 

Alright. I really want the bottom 3rd of my doors/fenders, front/rear bumpers, and center of hood/roof all done. I want to go the DIY route to save cash... but I may get it done high heat/pressure to prevent any early wear.

 

The "professionals" like LineX and Rinoliner spray on a hot compound at high-pressure. Apparently it is far better than any roll-on DIY kit you can buy. Or so I have read.

 

They range in price from $350 to $600 depending on how heavy your wallet is...

 

Just picked this up tonight off CL. Guy's dad bought it and because of his health never got around to setting it up. Decent bead right out of the box. Haven’t really had a chance to mess with the settings.
