Lol. You should get in a conversation with my sister and say that. She went to school at UAH for Music Education. Worked out well for her, but she was a very unusual case. Most of her friends she graduated with or were classmates with, work as a barista now.

 

I agree with that. I went to Alabama. Wanted to work for Alabama. Got hired on at Alabama partly because I went to Alabama. Because, it would be harder to make maps of the campus if I had to learn it first.

 

haha! some have success! definitely wasn't a full blanket statement, but I have seen and heard of a very high percentage of students I knew there get a liberal arts degrees and go nowhere with it. congrats to your sister though! I've heard UAH has a good music program (when I had to take my music appreciation elective), but their priority is definitely on engineering and nursing.

Music Education in what setting? Because a school setting is a much different case. Those teachers are in relatively high demand in some areas.

A lot of folks get them as filler degrees, like having any bachelors degrees is better than none. Not the case when you're in debt up to your eyeballs and have an underwater basket weaving degree. My sister on the other hand actually had a plan for her career before college and had networked beforehand so she could actually get a job.

 

She worked for Grissom for a number of years as their Choir teacher and now she's teaching piano and voice lessons and also works as a church music minister.
