I concur. But that's just my genetic programmed response amplified by my disgust of BLO

But then I'd be mistakenly picked up by the coast guard or ICE :anonymous:

Loving the BLO hate in here...warms the heart. :)

I think folks are over reacting. Hell the grocery store shelves were being cleaned out yesterday in Warrenton. Ridiculous. I would be concerned in flood-prone areas because we will get some decent rain, but I highly doubt we will see winds gusting over 30 knots this far north. Nothing near the wind storm we had last year.

Regardless, the below websites have some good info in case you want to keep abreast. Also, I recommend trusting the NWS forecasts this week over the apps like accuweather, wunderground, etc. Their forecasts will correlate nicely with the NHC and should be more accurate for the storm passage.

So my sister is down in Jacksonville with her husband stationed at Lejeune.

I know we’ve got a few Marines in here, do you think they are going to let him evacuate? I don’t think it’s a good idea for her to stay there to wait for him until then, especially since they have two dogs.

They have already evaucated Bragg and Lejuene is much more in the crosshairs. I would assume Lejuene has a mandatory evac by 1700 today.

I was at Lejeune from 2014-2017, doing weather for II Marine Expeditionary Force (senior command for all deployable units on the East Coast). We had several hurricanes during my time there, and a few that would be considered "direct hits" to the base much like this one is expected to be. Each time, evacuations of non-essential personnel were recommended. So, the answer depends on her husband's duties. I could never evacuate because of the nature of my job, but my wife could have easily (she didn't, but still). If his duties do not require him to stay, he will likely be given the opportunity to get out of town.

Edit: To clarify, during my time there were no "higher authority mandated" evacuations of uniformed personnel. It was always "highly encouraged", which in Marine-speak means do it.

Awesome man... Sounds like a cool job. I have always been fascinated by weather/meterology and growing up in SC, hurricanes were the thing that excited me the most. I interned for a semester while in HS at the National Weather Service in Charleston and it was during hurricane season. It was fun.

Yeah my others sister’s BF is at boot camp and I think they are evacuating. I was thinking this is about the time they should start evacuating
That’s good to know. Not sure if he is essential or not. I guess his unit is deciding or something.

I'm going rock climbing this afternoon (indoors) for the first time in like 7 years. Luckily I still have all my old gear. Anyone else here into it?

I’d like to try it. I know there is a climbing gym down the street but it’s expensive af

I must've gotten lucky when I was climbing (or just the fact stuff was cheaper 8 years ago) because my climbing gym was only $40 a month and they had top rope and bouldering. It really is a lot of fun, and I want to get back into it. I used to go multiple times a week for hours at a time. Your grip strength becomes nuts after awhile haha

If I end up getting into it and getting a membership at a local gym I'll let you know if you wanna ever join me.

That would be sweet. I want to say the one near me is $20 a day or like $80 a month for the cheap one plus equipment. I should have taken advantage of the free climbing wall when I was in college...
