Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

Mind if I pick your brain about this? I was denied today by the dealer of flashing the TSB.

Just got this done to my truck last week. First real drive since then was today. I must say it is a improvement. Better throttle response. Can’t say quite yet if there’s a different in mpg. But I would say this was definitely a improvement

 

Are any of you experiencing some wonky shifting in the lower gears after getting the update? Feels sorta like an old car when the transmission starts going out. Kind of like some mild clunking when changing gears at slower speeds. It's not terrible, but I definitely feel it.

Other than a change in RPM, I generally don't feel much in the shifting. But in these lower gears I can almost feel it in the pedal.

Thoughts?

 

I got mine last week. Huge difference in overall driving, interstate and in-town. Didnt really fix the "oh shit its time to get movig off the line" but other than that it is a fantastic tune compared to before.

 

The question is what is the impact of the TSB in low elevation? Are you still finding the benefit ?

Ya no problem. Search the OVTune Manual transmission thread for a link to the free Techstream. Then the CUW file that updates your ECU with the new TSB. The CUW file is executable but you need Techstream loaded on your PC. And you will need a USB to cable/adapter for the OBDE port. I used the Tactrix cable that came with my OVTune package but can be purchased separately from other sources. It wasn't that hard, even for a computer-illiterate like me. My ECU now shows most current version when scanned. The latest OVTune map, 1.04R, works great with the TSB update and 1.05 is pending release this week.

 

Alright, I got my truck back yesterday afternoon. They did the update without a test drive and the 5K "service". I forgot the report in my truck but the notes say something like "Customer states bad shifting and hesitation from a stop, requesting TSB 0062-18" The service adviser I spoke with said I was the 3rd or 4th person who have come in for the same thing. They have 6 or 8 advisers so I believe this is getting to be well known so hopefully dealers will just start doing the update no questions asked. I was able to log over 125 miles last night and today, a few random notes/observations...
*It drives MUCH better, as others have said it feels like ECT is on
-The shifts under regular acceleration on flat ground seem firmer and quicker
-On any sort of incline it feels as though it's holding gears better/longer as it should
-I'm a bit of a cruise control freak and in heavy cross winds with cruise on it wasn't hunting for gears or shifting too early/too late on slight inclines etc
-Small sample size but MPG's look the same or maybe a few 1/10th better

 

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm in Florida.

My 2018 Tacoma was delivered in mid-August. I just turned 1,000 miles on the odometer. It doesn't seem to have any of the problems that the TSB addresses.

My son has a 2008 Tacoma SR5 PreRunner, and while that one is quicker, it's not that much quicker. I haven't experienced any of the shifting issues or stumbling so far.

Got the update done today. Night and day difference. Especially with the Sprint Booster I have installed.

 

So it's been almost 2 weeks. I find that I'm driving it like I stole it, so I'm getting a hit on my MPG LOL

 

I had my '18 in to address a stumble condition a month or so ago. Service manager verified that an update was available for it and told me it was applied but there were no specifics on the work order and no confirmation sticker under the hood. Now I'm suspicious that they just reset the ECU. Throttle response and shift patterns were much better at first but now it seems like things are going back to where they were before.

Still have the bucking sensation when I put a load on it at 1200 or so and before it downshifts and I now experience the surge at 40-50...which I didn't have before.

Anyone know if the calibration can be checked with a bluetooth ODB adapter and the free Torque app?

 

Just update it per TSB-0058-18 and it feels a lot better. Thank God I finally found a competent dealer that did it for me without the push-back and hassle. If anyone is in MA looking for a Toyota service department I recommend Watertown Toyota. They make my day.
I do feel Toyota have to establish a better communication with dealers as the owners have more information that them and it is really frustrating. The service advisor told me that the personnel in "some other dealers" is not qualified. I really think is both....

 

Mine acts similar at slow speeds and light throttle. I attribute it to electronic-hydraulic-mechanical stuff trying to make the truck go. Most notable was coasting slow down a hill and no throttle and truck up shifts.
