I purchased a new 2018 Limited last week. Like I am, I did not do a test drive. I assumed since the truck was new...

Anyways, When I start out in the morning the truck seems to hesitate like it has bad gas. I initially thought maybe the dealership had bad gas and I would run out the tank.

I now put in "my own gas/that I paid" and the truck still hesitates when driving.

I had a 2nd Gen for over 13 years and it never had an issue such as this.

Is this normal for the 3rd Gen?

    thanks

Yes, they are underpowered. Keep ECT on or get the OVTUNE

It's a tune that helps solve the issue, the dealership can also flash your ECU to fix the issue I believe

I am sort of glad this problem is not me. Thank you. I will look into all suggestions.

If you're going to get the OVTune get it soon because he's going to stop orders soon

Mine has no hesitation whats so ever! I step on the gas and it goes!
If it's that bad bring it back to the dealer!
Only one truck that I test drove had issues, it was a manual and for the first couple miles every time I shifted up and stepped on the gas it would puke out and almost stall. Also had a rough idle.

In my experience (aside from OVtune, which is awesome - but it's $770) I've always had some level of hesitation / slight miss feeling when running regular 87 gas. Never, ever happens when I run premium (93 where I live). While the truck is rated for regular gas and plenty run it, in my truck the overall driving experience is much much smoother whether tuned or not and I never get the hesitations that you're experiencing unless I go back to 87...

Many will (perhaps rightfully) say this is pissing away money. So be it. I like to enjoy my driving experience and it definitely makes a big difference in my truck.

My 2007 FJ's 4.0 and a 2007 Tacoma have the same 4.0, but the owner's manual in the FJ recommends premium fuel. The owner's manual in the Tacoma recommends regular. I never knew why, but I think it would have discouraged pickup owners from buying a truck that recommended premium fuel. The bottom line is that these engines just run better with premium. Even a 4.7 V8 Land Cruiser recommends premium in the owner's manual.

What this guy said. Keep in mind the hesitation occurs in specific RPM ranges and when the throttle is pressed at a certain amount and ALSO if you are on different inclines. My 2016 TRD OR does it at a very specific spot on my commute every morning so I usually try to put the foot down a little more at that spot. I am OVTuned, but my truck weighs alot more than stock

Really. One reason I bought the truck was because I didn’t have to use premium fuel. Ugh...

Using premium won't change anything on your truck. Nobody loves the auto.

Next fill up, I will try premium to see if this helps me love the truck.

TSB will completely change that for you. Made me love my truck all over again
