It was the first time in forever that every radio in our shop was tuned into the same station.

Latter in the year we hired a couple of guys that had worked at Jarvis in the city, they had gone up to the roof of their building when they heard the North Tower had been hit. They watched the second plane fly into the South Tower. By the end of the week the majority of the machists at Jarvis had found work elsewhere and would not return to the city.

My job at the time required lots of international travel - weekly at one point - but for whatever reason I was spending my time in the Chicago HQ then. I turned on the TV for my usual check of the baseball scores, weather, and traffic on TV which happened to be shortly after the first plane hit. After watching the horror play out in real time, I remember the drive to the office was just as congested as usual, but strangely absent of blaring horns and aggressive, road rage driving. Not much work got done that day, as everyone was gathered around the TVs.

The office was pretty close to O'Hare, and after all the commercial flights landed, the skies were so unusually silent, interrupted quite unnervingly by the few military jets streaking by.

Quote of the day on our church website:

    Good morning all.
    :oldglory:

I was just waking up to go into work when I heard the news. I turned the TV on and just watched in sheer shock and horror. I really couldn’t focus for a bit. :pout:

Pumpkin Pie ice cream. It was soo good I went back inside and bought a quart of it.
I did make the mistake of telling my wife. Now I have to share it with her.

I had just gotten back from PSAB the previous Saturday.... Was on my time off and sitting in my family room watching tv. Watched in horror the events of that day.

I was working for a DoD subcontractor at the time. I had just come back from breakfast when someone said a plane had hit one of the towers. We all thought it was civilian plane, and went to the cafeteria where the company had a large screen TV. We could see the smoke and knew it had to be a bigger plane. Not long after we sat down and watched the coverage, the other plane hit. Security locked down the building and an armed detail arrived to protect the facility. Anyone who wanted to go was let out, but I had to stay and cover network issues. Most of us stayed until 5-6pm when the building was cleared by security. After that, we had real security guards and all cars had to be cleared into the lot.

One of the guys i know at the boat place has a son who was to go for a job interview at one of the towers that morning.

Lucky for him, he stayed with some friends in the city and tied one on. He overslept and missed his train. He was a couple blocks away when the first plane hit.

Getting kinda scary up here. They’ve now shut down William and Mary until next week and are currently evacuating it. I got a feeling shits gonna get real around here or do nothing. They’re calling for 12-18” of rain where we live

Kristi and I were in a home buying class at the Family Support Center on RAF Mildenhall, in preparation for our PCS here. A woman interrupted the class and told everyone what was happening. We picked the boys up from school and sheltered in place in base housing watching coverage on TV and wondering what was next.

Next morning I worked my first shift augmenting Security Forces on vehicle search teams at base gate; I worked that additional duty as a regular part of my day every day until we left England.

Katrina taught gov agencies a lesson. Better to over react before hand than to under react.

Just came from homeR deSpot. There was a guy buying up every flashlight, batteries, and sump pump they had in the store. He had N Carolina tags. We're 9 or 10hours away from the coast. I smell price gouging about to happen.

I had just left the conference room and I was thinking of how I was ever going to get the things done in time for a large project coming up. as I walked back to my desk I noticed everyone was crowed in to one cube. I stopped to see what was going on
