I was in college, getting ready to go to work and had the news on TV. I saw the 2nd plane hit in real time.

There is plenty going on today. It's not a national holiday, but there aren't any US national holidays (that I can think of) that commemorate an attack such as this. Same with Pearl Harbor, the days JFK or Reagan were shot, etc...

You have to remember that there are people who can drive now that weren't even born by Sept 11, 2001. They don't have a true concept of it (the "you weren't there man!" mentality). They never will. Just like I wasn't there on Dec 7 1941. It's essentially just another day in the history books. Just like Pearl Harbor is for me.

I remember what it was like when I could bring my nail clippers on the plane and didn't have to take my shoes off.

Also, it's a lot easier to remember the date in which some major event happened when the date is in the name of that event (i.e. Sept 11).

I just like to check things out, I'm not looking for a guided tour really. Otherwise it would just be me guessing wildly at roads on a map

I have a route that would show alot of the Ashley National Forest and surrounding areas, with the options of some “trails” one could go on.

A lot of it would just be forest roads and pavement though and quite a bit large zigs and zags. Not the most efficient route.

If you could see my GPS tracks from trips you'd see we aren't always the most efficient haha

We didn't buy 4x4's to take "the most efficient" route...

I could try and map it out somehow.

Well I mean, we would cut back and forth acrossed a highway a couple times adding quite a few miles.

If you would that would be really cool and I'd be appreciative, but you don't have to. @turbodb has a slightly difficult but thorough how to on making GPS tracks
