Hi, my name is Sean, and I'm a TW addict.

Phew!! Feels good to finally say it out loud.

So I'm a new member now.... been lurking for a few years, like a total creep.... but to be fair I felt like I shouldn't sign up until I had a Tacoma! I've always driven a Toyota truck. I bought a 1991 Toyota Pickup DLX 4x4 when I was 15 (circa 2005) and that has been my one and only vehicle. Still love it, still own it, don't plan on ever selling it. And while I have all the faith in the world in that little pickup with 250k miles, my wife... well, she doesn't.

My fairly strict parameters led to a long, long, long search. I needed to find a Tacoma to become my new DD, as well as weekend warrior toy! I'm picky, so I wanted to make sure the new-to-me Taco had 3 pedals, 4 doors, and of course 4 wheel drive. Also wanted it to be near to or less than 115k miles, only a certain few colors, and 1 or 2 owner... and while I was at work last week, my wife found me one that met my criteria while she was at work!

After a handful of phone calls, the truck was being held for me to go get it. The next day I got off duty, went to the bank, grabbed a check, and hopped online to order a bus ticket for that night ($30 bus ride vs $245 flight, I’ll save the extra cash for truck parts). Loaded a greyhound that night around midnight bound for downtown LA. Bus ride sucked, but oh well, expectations weren’t high. After breakfast I went to Carmax as they opened, and by noon I was headed north and home with the truck that evening!!!

Very happy with the truck. Some light cosmetics I will rectify at some point, but runs well and looks pretty good. Sound system is great. The previous owner put new tires on it, but they are stock or close to, and I’ll be selling those and the stock Sport wheels ASAP, while the mileage on them is still low. Also replacing the headlights ASAP. Previous owner threw HIDs into the stock housings, so the headlights have no cutoff, light throw is awful, and they are a terrible blue. And the ballast is off, so fogs and headlights have a bit of visible flicker. Also want to ditch the bed cover. It seems nice, good quality, mostly weatherproof, but when folded up still takes a third of my bed!! I don’t like that, so the “extang solid fold 2.0” has got to go.

So I’m on the hunt for wheels. Once I find them I’ll be ordering some Cooper tires in as close to a true 33” as I can. While searching for those I’m also comparing lifts, hoping to achieve approx 2” lift without sacrificing wheel travel and off-road capability, while mainting a moderate budget... lots to look at, but think I may have found some good options.

There are many things I want to do to the truck... but besides those first couple, most other mods will have to wait some... according to my wife, I’m difficult to buy gifts for, so I’m supposed to make a list of truck related gifts and where to get them, for her to access at Christmas and birthday time!

I’ll post more pics as I get ones I like, and of course once I lift it and throw on some tires. Other truck is my ‘91

Ah, and if anyone cares, I live in Sacramento, grew up in a small town called Placerville. I work on an ambulance for Sac Metro Fire, and I also work Ski Patrol in the Tahoe area during the winter. My wife, who is from Argentina, and I have been married for almost 3 years now. No kids yet. Anything else just ask!

Thanks Matt! And don't worry, I would never! My dad is going to be using it the next couple months for deer season to get up into the mountains with reliable 4 wheel drive!

Welcome! Where in Tahoe do you work as Ski Patrol? If you'd rather not say thats totally understandable.

I go skiing at the Tahoe resorts often, so I'm just curious!

No not a problem!! Boreal and Soda Springs, same company and sister hills. Both are smaller, and I spend most of the time at Soda, but I love it. Ski all over the area though!

Nice. I'm somewhat ashamed to say most of my money goes to Vail resorts... though this season I also got the Ikon Pass. I only got the Epic because they offered $99 for military. Can't afford not to. lol

Welcome, Live in Sacramento also. Used to race up in Placerville in the 60's early 70's been through many time on the way to camping up at Wright Lake or on the way to Silver Lake and the family cabin vir Mormon Immigrant Trail/Iron Mountain Road. I feel into my 2010 Double Cab TRD spot with 27K on it at CARMAX was just thinking of getting a newer Tacoma and that on popped up Grab it in great shape/like new but it is Grandpa City Truck as the Gkids call it, Been up to Silver lake a couple of time fishing but need Shell on it for dogs. Wish I would have kept my 02 Double Cab for the oldest grandson. Enjoy your truck
