The N. area of that model is right where my place down at the beach house is. I'm trying to calculate if I can make it there and back tomorrow before the kiddo gets out of school to grab a momento from my Gramps in case it gets destroyed. But traffic on 40 W is already a parking lot.

Always take back roads. You can travel all of SC without ever hitting a highway.

We are transplant Yankees what do you expect! They don’t leave a 15 mile radius of little river let alone take back roads haha.

I think Kayla and I have taken 20 different routes going to see them cause I’m always trying to avoid the major roads. Got a pretty good route down now from Greenwood to Little River.

Yeah, I've been a Crew Chief for 11 years. 4 of which I was an technical training instructor. For those that aren't spun up on military lingo, a crew chief is basically the person that fixes and prepares an aircraft (or other piece of equipment) for launch and anything that the crew chief cannot fix, they ensure the correct speciality is notified. The closest civilian comparison would be those guys on the ground at the airports that launch/recover the aircraft and service with all the liquids. Granted, we do quite a bit more than our civilian counterparts (no disrespect) but it was the easiest comparison for non-military folk. Basically, if it needs inspecting/fixing prior to the jet taking off on the next sortie, you can have a solid bet that a crew chief played some part in that process.

As for our Marine counterparts. Got Daaamn. I've heard some stories of our Marine brethren. My expiditor (flight line boss) at my first base was an old C130 crew chief from the Marines and he told us of stories of Marines driving the fuel trucks would check the quantity of their JP8 standing on the top of the truck smoking a cigarette. I've heard rumors that you could quench a cigarette out in a cup of JP8(jetfuel) since the fuel is only volatile if its atomized. I am not going to test that theory though. I worked 10 years as a C130 Crew Chief and now I'm working C17s and as the old saying goes, I miss the shit out of my old aircraft. Nothing against the 17, but there's nothing quite like the ol' dirty 30.

Ill be loading up both my wife's vehicle and my own and heading out tomorrow morning. Praying that traffic is going to play nice.
