How many ECU failures have occurred during a home TSB flash? I’ve performed it on 2 trucks via flash wizard and it could not have gone smoother. I’m with @bshammer0, it must be something interrupting the flash process such as vehicle voltage or computer issues.

Dumb question for you... was either of those trucks you flashed an '18? I didn't have a problem flashing my '16 with the version of techsteam I'm running (12.10.019), but I'm wondering if it will work on an '18...

Nope. One was a ‘16 and other was a ‘17. I know there are two separate TSB files. One for ‘18s and one for ‘16s & ‘17s. I could be completely wrong but techstreams flashing software doesn’t seem to let you make mistakes. I tried to flash ‘18 file and it wouldn’t let me do it. Looks bulletproof to me unless something interrupts the process.

If you hook up TS to the 18, does it automatically identify the vehicle specs when you first connect? I think I had that version at first and I’d have to use the 2017 model data. Upgraded to a newer version and it auto detected.

Yep, you are right on that point. If you try and pick the wrong file, the wizard just won't do it.

I wasn't clear on my question, sorry about that... I was wondering if the version of techstream itself makes a difference when trying to flash an '18 (the actual app version, not the CUW file version).

I flashed about 10 trucks on one Sunday at our last club meet :) They were all 16/17's Some were on 04b000 ecu calibration too which is nuts when in each of the 2 instances, the dealers had tld the folks their trucks were on the latest stuff.

the file does validate if its applicable to your vehicle model.

I would think you would want the latest 13.10 version of it. The newer versions just add fixes and support for new vehicles amongst other things.

Just depends on your location and mileage man. For me with the mileage I put on each month, the difference between 22.5mpg and 16mpg is about 2000$/yr. I got 1.5 kids right now and plan on a third so every bit helps.

I know I could drive something less expensive, but me getting a Tacoma was a condition of marriage lol. I'm not giving it up that easy.

So just got home after my flash. I thought the tsb was good. Vanilla compared to the 1.04R. 1.04R has some low end grunt. Love it. Can’t wait to see what Mat has in store.

Go buy it if you are on the fence.

Vanilla is about to be out. 1.05 is going to be the pumpkin spice tune.
