I just wanted to clarify that if it was just that one spot I would have fixed it. Hope I didn’t sound like I was sour. Hearing that it was “quoted” at $5,300 about gave me a heart attack, cause you know it’s gonna be more that that. I’m stoked, but wish this situation never happened. I’ve had a lot of fun with that truck and it’s taken me to amazing remote places.

    I hear you.

I am surprised about what the Taco can do. I don't hang in exclusive groups whether it's cars, trucks, or bikes. Enjoy that T4R! I'm envious that you have a manual 4wd T case.

    Hahaha!

I am thankful to be all day comfortable in the Taco. I did have to make spacers for my wife.

The 4Runner is the wife's, and so I do have to adjust the seat when I drive it. The limited we had previously had came with memory seats that were air cooled! That I do miss. Luckily she is scared to drive my taco so I never have to mess with the seats in that

Yeah. Both of our previous cars had memory seats. One worked off the remote fob. Going back to non-memory was an adjustment, pun intended. Thankfully, I hate driving her Forester CVT and she doesn't like the stiff reverse spring in the Taco.

    A sort of de tante.

Yeah, we were mostly Acura people before the Toyota's so we had a few cars with memory seats and mirrors tied into the remote. My taco is probably the most basic vehicle I've owned (other than the 69 chevelle and 71 wagoneer I had in high school) the limited 4Runner also had the smart key that unlocked itself and push button start, which took awhile to get used to, and even longer to get over

I don't even have push button start in the MT. It is basic and I do enjoy it. I'm weird like that but am coming out of a PoS Ural. It's a keeper for me.

Urals are cool in their own way.
I'm a fan of less electronics. One reason we traded in the 2014 4runner limited 4x4 for the 2016 trail. So much electronics. Would be a nightmare when it gets old. We are planning to keep both trucks as long as possible.

My wife is the same, will only drive a Forester now. Our last one (2001 her folks bought new) had the dreaded head-gasket issues but was gas/oil/tires for 13 years, hard to beat that.

In 20k, I rebuilt the motor for factory flaws (plural), the gear box was operated on twice, and I rebuilt the final drive among other mechanical issues. The frame was killer as was the bad weather and offroad capability. For the KISS / no gizmos side, it was great, just not reliable as a commuter. Like you, that's what I want the Taco for long term. I'm putting twice the miles on it than I thought.

Exactly where my wife is at. I do hope to at least get her into an MT WRX once the kids vacate.

So, given the cracks, did they give you a reasonable value or did they try and rake you over the coals on the trade?

Glad you are happy! Can’t generally go wrong with either 4Runner or a Taco.

I was thinking along the same line as you, maybe around 2002 being the last Manual 4R.

You can't judge the roughly half a million third gens sold now based on the handful of comments on a single forum.

Every vehicle forum on the web from Buick to Bugatti has people with gripes or complaints looking for answers, that's just the nature of the forum setup.

They're selling over 20,000 3rd gen Tacomas every single month, all year long. People aren't flocking en masse to the 4R or 2nd gens to escape anything.

Toyota Motor North America Reports U.S. Sales for July 2018
    July 2018 Highlights:
Tacoma increased by 25.7 percent, a best-ever July since 1996

"...Toyota Tacoma continues with big number sales in May 2018. The company once again sold over 20,000 midsize trucks per month (21,380 Tacomas to be exact). It also marks a 21.1% improvement over May 2017..."

He already did... Read the whole thread. They wouldn't fix it so he traded for a T4R...

I have 2018 Tacoma long travel. I have this issue on driver side. I’ve replaced bushing from the shit rubber to Polly. Im going to plate it this weekend and see if I can clean it up and tack weld it back together. Plan on relocating battery to get that weight off sun frame. Only cure is to take the time and beef it up with plating
