I know I really should be running 4.88's with 35's but I've had a set fall into my lap and can't pass cause they're brand new. Just wondering if anyone has run them for any length of time with the 4.10's ? How awful was it? Gears are going to happen just wanna know how much the struggle will be, trying to drive this around town lol

    Thanks boys

I've never been happy with 4.10s and stock tires that probably didn't quite make 30in. It was fine on the highway but has been too underpowered when starting on moderate hills and just about any 4WD use. I guess it depends on what you use the truck for and where you drive. Most of my driving is under 60mph on hilly roads and I tend to use 4WD almost weekly.

I put 32s on last week and will be ordering 4.88s this month. I climb hills more than I drive 70mph. The 32s and 4.10s plus no locker make my truck just about worthless. Fine to drive on the highway as long as I avoid certain lights so I don't have to stop on steep inclines, but really not much better than a prius. I can't imagine trying to drive with 35s and 4.10s. I would only want to try it on level ground.

I will be swapping out my 3rd member this month and adding a locker. I'll wait until November to get the front clamshell to spread out the cost. I'll have to tape over the 4WD switch so I don't forget and try to use it, but I'm hoping the added locker and lower gears will offset the need for 4WD for a while.

Not 4x4, but I do have 4.10s and 265 ATs.. I'd probably think you'd be fine around town, but it would be really awful on any kind of sustained grade, particularly at altitude. My truck is a dog enough with my small 41 lb P rated tires at 5-7k ft and grades, I have to assume 35s would be significantly worse.

May not apply to your locale, however. I'm an auto trans FWIW.

I would compare the hillyness of BC to Colorado if that helps you with comparison. I've managed to get ahold of some people who have struggled through the agony of 35's on 4.10's and for the few moths I'll have to endure it till I can regear it shouldn't be a problem. well here's hoping cause the tires are happening. I know what you mean about the hill starts in 2wd. I've only ever used 4hi once in the snow just cause lol. My truck lives in 4lo and on the trail. Time will tell if this was a huge mistake but for now its an item off the checklist and gets my truck one step closer to being able to hit some of my dream trails.

Your clutch won't be liking you very much. Those tires won't fit on your truck without some serious trimming, a lift AND wheel spacers. Aftermarket wheels with less back spacing works too, but yeah... seems to me to be a lot of tire unless you've got all your ducks in a row. If you do decide to mount them before doing the other mods, keep us posted!

Cab mount will be murdered soon enough, fenders etc trimmed and my bfh will do the rest. ya i know my cluth will hate life but sometimes deals come up that you just can't say no too.. I will totally whore out pics when they're on though

I've driven mine in most of the rockies, including the Kootenays in BC. Really the only problem I have had with the 4.10s is starting on hills. I'm sure the autos do much better, but it sometimes requires a lot of clutch to get going in 2wd or 4hi. I hate avoiding stopping because I'm afraid I might not get going again without using 4LO. Can't wait for the 4.88s, and that's just for the 32s.

I've never had an issue with not wanting to stop, ya sometimes it sucks on some big hills but she's always gotten going for me. in 4lo I've never had a time when i couldn't get it moving on a hill.. but 4.88's are the way to go for sure if you wanna do more than medium trails in a 4cyl 2nd gen

I've never had a problem starting in 4lo. I just hate having to use it on the highway. There is a light near work I have to avoid because the hill is so steep I can't get started in 2wd without smelling a whole lot of clutch. Of course 4lo works but then I have to pull over before everything binds up to switch out once I get through the light. I just avoid that light now.

There are a few hills on our farm that I can't go up in 4hi when my avalanche makes it in 2wd all day. The locker should help with that but I think the gears will too. I just wish the 4cyl came with a 6 speed manual with a granny low. That way you could use it when you needed it or start in 2nd if you didn't.

those must be some crazy ass steep hills. cause I've never even thought of using 4wd on the highway. well except for that one time i thought my diff bearing was toast so i did the 4hi test and it turned out to be a ujoint lol.... but ya off road theres been times when im on a forest road in 2wd and its like fuuuuu rolling along in 1st gear cause i dont want to stop and drop into 4lo

I feel the same way with my 1st Gen 4 banger with 4.10s and 31"s. Fine on the highway but 4hi is useless off road and when I get into the rocks 4low is still to high for crawling in the rough stuff. I really wanna go to 33"s but can't afford gearing and think it would be miserable offroad with 4.10s.

I've got a buddy witha first gen 4 banger with 35's and 4.10's. It's definitely a dog but he still wheels it. It won't pull fifth on the highway though
