LED Lighting Conversion

They are spec'd at producing ~10% less output than stock. Though many confuse whiter light with brighter light. I fully intend on documenting all this with high end scientific light measuring equipment in the near future to point people to an independent thread demonstrating the issue.

 

Has anyone used these long term for low beams?
I saw some posts on YouTube claiming they would yellow the lens over time, but there was scant information about long term reliability in rainy/snowy shitty weather.

 

Seems unlikely. Not sure how a white light could yellow the poly-carbonate lens.

 

I also couldn’t figure out how they would cause yellowing. I think perhaps it was just Debbie-downers trying to crap on a new’ish product.
I might just give them a try and report back. Honestly, the only gripe I have against my Taco are those damn headlights bulbs.

 

Maybe it's got some UV in there? That's the only thing I can think of that would yellow the headlamp.

 

Or you could get some @XenonDepot bulbs like I have and never worry about them again. Just sayin'

 

A halogen bulb is going to produce more UV than an LED. Meaning those LEDs will not yellow the lens over time. I'm betting someone bought aftermarket headlights with poor UV protective coating, or 'refinished' their headlights and did not reapply an adequate UV protective coating, which will cause the lenses to rapidly yellow much worse than before. Note that in those LEDs specifically, that single large diode does not attempt to mimic a halogen filament. The pattern performance will be poor, distance projection will suffer and they will be very high glare.

 

So for the h11 low beam led conversion, what is is best brand?

Only one I got for now. Really liking the looks of the LED in person compared to stock. I saw these lights on Amazon for like $7 bucks and said what the hell, let’s try em!

 

The glare should be very minimal or mitigated vastly by the projectors.

 

As long as they are putting it in the headlight and not the fog light, yes. Either way though it is a poor design compared to other options.

 

Own a 17 off road. Haven’t had any luck with led. Got me a set of piaa extreme and is highly satisfied.

I've read some of your other posts, and think I understand your data but want to make sure. LEDs aren't just a simple "fix all" for brightness, and work best when they are put into a projector, right? So LED bulbs work well for lowbeams in 3rd gens, but it's pointless to put LED bulbs in the OEM fog light housing.

 

LEDs attempt to mimic a halogen filament when retrofitted into a halogen housing. Some do better than others, but none do it perfectly which usually results in glare. The projectors clean up the glare with the internal projector light sheild, whereas reflectors do not.
