    No it isn't...

    I don't go off-roading!

    We just put $1,600 into fixing the A/C in my truck, and it only has 87K miles. I am not selling it in this decade!

    I plan on keeping it for a while...

    I'm not selling the fucking truck! Even if I could afford a new vehicle right now, I'd keep this one! I don't think you seem to realize that decent Tacomas aren't cheap, and money doesn't grow on trees!

    So you did 500 miles in 2 weeks, that puts you at 88k by the end of the month, probably at 91k by the end of the year, I'm going to guess 100k by the end of next summer.

    It's weird because I only put about 31,000 miles on it the first four years I had it (purchased new in September 2009, new wheels and tires in October 2013)...

    @Plain Jane Taco

    I was talking with my neighbor (Ryan, the guy who helped me install my sound system) tonight, and when I told him that it had been almost nine years to the date that my dad bought my Taco, he was amazed. He said he wished he'd kept a vehicle that long because it would have saved him a whole hell of a lot of money!

    Parents buy vehicles for their kids all the time, and more often than not, kids also buy themselves a cheap used vehicle. I know a lot of people, and I am one of only two people I know who's had the same vehicle for almost a decade. One of my friends with Aspergers got his license at the age of either 17 or 18 (which would have been 2004-2005) and his first car was a 1997 Oldsmobile 88 LS that he bought from the elderly original owner for $1,500. The car had 60K on it when he bought it, and it had 150K on the clock when he traded it for a used 2006 Nissan Maxima in 2010. By 2017, the Maxima had over 160K miles and was starting to show its age. There was nothing wrong with the Maxima, it was just old, had high miles, and required premium fuel. My friend traded his Maxima for a loaded 2013 Nissan Altima in spring 2017, and he still has that obviously. My friend is a good driver and has never ever even been pulled over in about 15 years of driving. He had one minor accident in the Oldsmobile. Basically, my friend got rid of his first car because it was 13 years old and had high miles, and he'd just gotten a new job and was making more money. He got rid of the second car for the same reasons, plus the fact he'd gotten a promotion. This is an ideal scenario...

    One of my friends (non-aspie) has a filthy-rich pharmaceutical executive father who leases him a new car every 6 months to a year, and we're not talking entry-level vehicles...

    He's had at least two Jeep Wranglers, two VW GTIs, a Lexus hybrid, a BMW X1, a Volkswagen Tiguan, a Volkswagen Touareg, a Mercedes C300 coupe, a Mazda Miata, and a Jeep Renegade among others. All of these vehicles were between late 2008 (when he got his license at 17) and just this year. He never totaled one. He just got tired of them, or his dad decided to get him a new one....

    Another friend of mine totaled the '03 Highlander his parents gave him in the summer of 2013, after having it less than a year...

    I have known most of my current friends since 2009, and one since 2005. I am the only one who has had the same vehicle the whole time!

    Yeah, that is one very nice thing about buying it new and taking good care of it.
    I have always bought used vehicles, but if you were to add up the purchase price of all of them in the last nine years, less the price I got when I sold them, I'm still only into them about $16,400.

    Maintenance, though...

    The longest I've owned any vehicle was 6 years. 03 Hyundai accent that I bought in early '08 and turned left in front of a dump truck in mid '14.
