    I would have preferred a bit more of a contemplative day, maybe attend a local memorial ceremony, but I've got an event tonight, and a million things needed to be finished up. Some friends from Munich coming to visit Chicago for the first time ever - one of whom I haven't seen in 15+ years. It's been a mad, frantic time trying to convert part of the basement into a guest suite, but I think I pulled it off. I've been anxious about this for a while, but hopefully I'll be able to relax tonight over a couple beers after the airport pickup.

    Of course, I'm Polish, and my people tend to get a bit nervous when the Germans come to visit.

    It was early here and I was still at home, my SIL called and told us to turn on the news. Work called and told us to stay home. My kid had his birthday the day before, he was 3. We went from a happy state on the 10th to horror on the 11th.
