ECU TSB Update

The driver is not for your truck. It's for your computer to be able to properly communicate with the OpenPort 2.0. Download the driver from tactrix.com and install it. Then plug in the OpenPort 2.0 and your computer will recognize it as an OpenPort 2.0.

 

Okay so it's on their website. I am borrowing the cable from someone, that is why I asked where I can find the computer driver to use it.

Hah, I'm ahead of you! My family puts me at about 16 with my fixation on cars/trucks. Oh, well I'm biologically 69, so regression at this age is a boon.

 

I have a 2018 Pro built July 27, 2018, but it does stumble in the shift between 2nd and 3rd, probably not as bad as 2016s, but still there. Our local corrupt dealership (Larry Miller) won't even consider it, but there is a local guy that has done it already. I bought my Pro up in Utah from Karl Malone who used to be here in Albuquerque, and was honest all the way through the deal, unbending but upfront.

Sounds like my Pro built in July 18, as I said above. I certainly can live with it (I've had 6 Toyota trucks in the last 30 years). All of my Tacomas from 1998 on (at least from 2003 on) had a stumble in the lower gears. As long as it doesn't cause an issue off-road rock crawling I'm ok. On the drive back from Utah when it was brand new, I took it on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands and it was great. Great to get rid of that auto TRD OR beast I mistakenly purchased with such high diff gearing.

 

Just the Openport 2.0. No adapters. Although, I didn't buy a cable. I borrowed one from a kindly @mstrbrc .

Interesting. Using Version 12.10.019? No big deal. I believe obdii360.com has a newer version linked, but I wanted to stick with the known / hacked version.

In this race, the lowest points win! Although, you do get a bonus for the 69.

 

The 04B12 tune on mine was fine offroad, but the TSB tune is actually much better due to the smoothness. Not to mention improved MPGs when wheeling (more range).

 

Damn Larry Miller. They are a monopoly in the Middle Rio Grande Valley and we have to drive 200 miles south to Roswell or Alamogordo to get decent treatment. The Santa Fe dealership changed hands recently and has cloned Larry Miller's attitude. Sorry for going on.

Hahaha! I'm good for now. If another TSB update comes up, I might update to a newer version if folks with 2018+ want some help.

I'm not keeping an official score or anything, but it seems to be: Official Tactrix - All Good to 0 Failures. Other adapters: 0 Good to 2 Failures.

Also if the worst should happen, it seems that a bricked ECU can be unbricked.

My build date was 05/18 and I have the 8966304A7000 Cal ID. I have a feeling my dealer is going to give me static about it.

 

I'm taking my truck in tomorrow for them to do the tint (part of my purchase agreement) and I was wondering if there is any other TSB out there for the '18s I should ask about.

 

So question. Since the TSB states “in 4th or 5th gear during torque converter lock up” could one not argue that it’s not transmission related at all since the transmission is in affect “locked” as would a manual transmission would be. If the stated between shifts it would be different but they are pretty much stating it’s all engine anyway. Correct me if I’m wrong. On my way in now to try and get it done.

I tried unsuccessfully to have the update done today on my ‘18 while in for clutch squeak. I was told the only TSB for my year was for torque converters which wouldn’t apply to my manual. Apparently if no TSB directly linked to VIN then no update possible. I tried to persuade with ‘others have seen great results from the update’, but my game was off today.
