CarPlay is the only thing I really miss about my F150. Every time I try to hold down my phone button for Siri, my Entune head unit reboots.

No, the company never followed up past the initial response, unfortunately. Plus, I've since expiramented with non name branded Android devices in my wife's car, and the result was less than desirable. With the capabilities of new decks, and the support of features from maestro idatalink, we can have an Android auto/carplay deck that retains 99% of the functionality of our Entune radio (all except the gauge cluster turn by turn directions). Seeing as how Toyota has abandoned the current gen of Entune, and is rolling out a new version that's incompatible with our Entune, it's only a matter of time before Entune 2.0 stops working completely.

This really sucks. If the system isn’t updated it is going to be exposed to security issues over time. There really should be more responsibility to maintain these “smart” systems.

When I custom ordered my Taco they said it would have CarPlay support but by the time it arrived Toyota retracted that statement. Entune is terrible - I prefer not connecting my iPhone via Bluetooth at all. Everything on the phone is better, faster without that connection. I like accessing Toyota's preferences and don't want to goto a 3rd party unit so I'm hopeful that there someone will discover a way of getting true CarPlay - not just view mirroring, with the stock head unit.

Am I right in that no one has been able to do that yet? Anyone making progress?

Keep in mind a head unit swap in these newer trucks is a very simple process - at worst we can pray when CarPlay finally does arrive a deck swap would be the worst case path to get it to our 3rd gens.. Crossing fingers!!!

Right but that's just for Android Auto right? Not Apple Car Play?

I'm going with no, but if it's possible to use RaspberryPi for Android Auto, I would imagine someone who knows how to code for Apple's software could utilize the same system for Apple Carplay. Just saw this information and got excited, sorry about that.

No apologies necessary! That is worth getting excited about and I'd love to hear if someone gets this to work with Car Play. Thanks!

I'm sure the raspberrypi would be capably of doing that, if not you could at least have an emulator and play NES and SNES games on your display lol. But really it has wifi and bluetooth capability, so Carplay over them like the apline units should be possible

Both work for me... odd. Note, from what I've read on the vendor's site, if this is compatible, it will mean breaking into the head unit, unplugging a ribbon cable, and putting in a sister board, but it would all be plug and play.

First of all, that's just screen mirroring - not Car Play. Mirroring is pretty trivial while Car Play would be infinitely more useful.

Looks like this is mirroring with touch control. This is more more useful than mirroring without touch, but A) it still isn't Car Play and B)
it requires a jailbreak (which is become nearly impossible on the newer phones).

Toyota promised Car Play when I ordered my 2016 Taco - I guess we'll never get it!

Sorry man, I feel for you. When I get some extra cash, it's either see if this is working, or get an aftermarket headunit. Maybe switch to Android...:duel::devil:

Never going to happen, it's Toyota. They are light years behind when it comes to stuff like this. Maybe in the 4th Gen Tacoma LOL.
