Lol, I don’t think a tech can tell if it’s 58 or 62 since they both end up putting the exact same file on your ecu. All the tech would see is that the ecu was updated and that’s it.

    To further clarify for @unavailableTaco

If the truck is being taken in for the updates, the tech will check if updates are available, and if they are they will run the updates based off of TSB 58 or 62, however, no truck “comes with” a TSB. The truck may or may not come with the updates associated with a TSB, but the TSB and the updates associated with them are not the same thing.

The really messed up thing here is that if an update is available for any electronic portion of the vehicle, they should run them with no question or condition needed. I assume Toyota makes updates because they recognize improvements can and should be made. And then dealerships, who get paid by Toyota for running said updates, give everyone a hard time. The amount of hours it seems like everyone here spends convincing a dealer to run an update, made for their vehicle, vs the time the updates take to run is an abomination example of wasted time and money.

Come on dealerships, grow up, get smart, just run the damn updates, get paid by Toyota, have more free time and move on. Everyone wins. Just unbelievable.

The red truck I had was built in July 18. I watched the Tech do it in front of me and he showed me it had the 58 update.

It’s unbelievable that the stealerships are giving everyone such a hard time. How long does it take to do the update? I can’t imagine It would be more then an hour.

I got mine updated this past weekend at Toyota Marin. That's where I bought mine, but the advisor was very helpful and they were happy to do the update.

I'm taking my truck in soon for it's 20k service and going to ask they perform this TSB.

Do I simply print the pdf of the TSB and take it in or should I provide them more information? I see talk of a "58 version" and "62 version" but don't see those numbers on the TSB.

I know. This is really unbelievable. I have had Toyota trucks since 1992 and not one has been in the shop until now. On my 2017 ZL1 when a TSB came out. I took it to the Chevrolet dealer in Grapevine. I just said, "I found this TSB for my ZL1, can you perform the work?". They didn't hesitate all and they said "sure we can". They didn't drive it, nothing. They took it back and fixed it in an hour.

if they would just do the update, it would be good cost wise for the dealership and tech, just flashing the truck may take 10 min. But to follow the TSB and test drive to verify the condition exists, bring back to the Bay, get all the equipment and hook it up, install, verify, attach the new sticker and fill out the paperwork may take 45 min to an hour. Corporate only pays for .4 hrs for the job, so the dealership and tech are losing money on the flash...

    my best guess

Here they are. The 62 is for high altitude.

got a 1pm appointment today at my dealership to get an ac issue corrected. I've discussed the transmission problems and they are gonna look at my current flash and update, hopefully.

Awesome, thanks for posting these! I only saw the 62 one posted a few messages down on page 1 and that's the one I printed so I'm glad you chimed in.

Is this surging it refers to simply while cruising between 40-50mph? I'm not sure I have this issue but definitely want the update performed. I do have the normal gear hunting, hesitant acceleration, etc. If I give heavy throttle it surges and hesitates then randomly feels like the power kicks on.

5-10 minutes, unless you do it at my dealer, then it’s 4 hours.

It should be around 3500+ rpm that the truck just takes off like "the supercharger" kicked in.

That's absolutely what my truck does, as the Honda boys would say "Vtec just kicked in!". The Dealership shouldn't have any problem replicating this in my truck then, assuming they push the throttle enough to make it happen, which the TSB doesn't say to do.

Picked up a new 2018 last weekend and it may have a little stumble. Is there a way to know which version I have without going to the dealership?

This times 100. I don't understand all the pushback from these Toyota Dealers! Just do the software update & be done with it. Here at Mercedes we are constantly doing software updates. Usually if the customer has a concern with something like transmission shift quality we check for a software update first along with a fluid level check. When in doubt flash it out LOL.

Let's hope for your sake. When I took mine in yesterday and did all of that, they would not fix anything. They said the "58" was applied so there is nothing to do. But it still is messed up I told them. They did not care. So I got the PRO.
