This is true, resale is difficult, but I will likely run it into the ground so it wont be a worry of mine.

Thanks, I will certainly look into this.

It is a 2017 sr5 6cyl 4wd with approximately 12k miles. It does not appear to have frame or suspension damage. The damage is almost as if a tree fell on top of it, or it hit an angled tree or a tree at an angle as most of the damage starts half way up the bumper and is mostly centered.

that makes two of us , although they're only about 16$ a piece...

idk quite yet, i'll take a close up of it and post it. I think I think i'll just start pulling on it and see what happens. My brother in law works for safelite and he is going to take some measurements for me next time he works on one.

good eye! It is a 68 numbers matching. It is what I should be working on instead of a new truck. If I can get this Tacoma done for way less than than the amount I can get in a vehicle loan for it, I'll likely pad it with enough to get that project started.

This is what I have into it so far. On the left is what I originally estimated, on the right is what I paid for what is bought so far. I have been getting some good deals.. I also got the TRD rims for 698 shipped and some falken tires for around 380 shipped the other week during the 15% off ebay sale. I also opted for a BPF skid plate rather than replacing the lower air dam piece. I didn't include these in my costs for the rebuild as they weren't necessary.

Honestly I think you overpaid by a large amount for that. If it was a OR or a Pro I would still think you overpaid. Best of luck though. I am currently looking to find a T4R Pro to rebuild. No such luck so far. The ones I have found are damaged really bad.

The prices on that list aren't necessarily correct either though. The first few random parts I googled are $100+ more than what he listed. Hes either getting them for a deal or hes just writing up estimates.

To each their own I guess. I should be into it for almost less than half of trade in value. I like working on vehicles (my own at least). I think it was a pretty good deal

Yes I've been getting some killer deals as I said. My initial estimate is the left column, the parts I've bought so far are the right column and what I actually paid.

Idk how I found a local shop with the new oem intake manifold for 190$.. bit I did. The headlamps I bought are led aftermarket and each have a broken tab I'll need to make/fix. The grille surround I bought damaged with a crack that I'll fix. The hood I bought local from someone who did a swap for a scooped hood. The bumper I bought off eBay in the correct color and was shipped Greyhound to save money.

The very bottom number is the total from each column, the number right above that is the total in parts alone. Sorry I didn't spell it out a little better for you all.

Fair enough. Good luck with the build. I am eager to see the true cost savings on the final product.

Water & roof damage are a no go for me & I work on automobiles for a living. Plus my take is a salvage title vehicle is worth about 50% of a trade in vehicle value. I commend you though for taking on the challenge.

*I noticed there is a build section, if mods want to move this there that would be great.*

Well I suppose it's time for an update. I've had a few partial days to start on it. I have the new radiator support pieces welded in. I ended up replacing the wire harness for the fuel injectors rather than rigging it. I am waiting on some parts for assembling the rest of what's in the engine bay. I was lazy and used my 1/4" ryobi impact to install the fan blade and busted a bolt off, now I'll probably need a new fan clutch bc otherwise it will be out of balance. or maybe i'll just tack weld it to the plate of the fan, idk yet...

I also tore out most of the interior as the previous owner must've smoked 10 packs a day in the dang thing as my entire garage smelled of cigarette smoke. I cleaned every interior panel front and back, and sprayed some ozium into ever nook and cranny. I took out the carpet and pad and much to my surprise the pad was still sopping wet... i let them sit for half a day with oxyclean on them and sprayed them down with the hose; this worked for the carpet, the pad still smelled so i threw it in the wash machine with a bunch of bleach and it come out very nicely. they are both currently finishing drying in the basement. The seats I'll bring to the in-laws that have a carpet cleaning business.IMG_20181015_181905757.jpg IMG_20181015_181912852.jpg IMG_20181014_170746748.jpg IMG_20181014_122612521_HDR.jpg IMG_20181014_122601025_HDR.jpg

Here's an update on the build cost. Should be mostly paint supplies, fog lights, unnecessary luxury items, and a few additional screw up costs left..

Was the intake system exposed to the elements while it was being towed? I am seeing that right?

Seems like you would have to get a new engine. Who knows what type debris got into the cylinders?

The hood was down while towed, well to the extent that it could be. There may be some plastic or wood debris in a cylinder or 2, but I'm confident they would burn out.. my only worry would be if any of the valves bent from the debris of the crash.

Heated and cooled seats for the unnecessary luxury items?

Quick question, how’d you remove the seats? I’m trying to get my driver's side seat out (with little effort) to do a thing but it seems to be put in by He-Man himself. Although, the rust probably doesn’t help.

I used my Ryobi 1/2" impact they didn't give me any trouble. And ya, I'm trying to keep separated what it would have cost to put back to stock and what I actually put into it. I've never had heated seats before and I live in WI. Good luck

Well got the roof jacked up. I used a Harbor Freight hydraulic pusher/puller. I couldn't get measurements for where it needed to end up, so i made the stick thing pictured that rests on the truck above the doors. I used this to measure down on a new truck at the local dealership to get the measurements i needed and then pushed up on mine until i got the measurements to match. There wasn't much to it.

I Then used a stud welder to pop out some of the dents along the roof. It's nowhere near perfect, but should finish up fine with some short-strand fiberglass bondo..
