I'm not surprised that diet isn't taught more as a remedy for illness... if I was selling drugs I wouldn't want people knowing that a diet change can help a lot more sometimes than taking my prescriptions.

So it was a 1/2 rack of smoked ribs last night over a friends house. Had to pass on the baked potato but there was a keto friendly creamed spinach to accompany.

    Now at 214.6

Well boys. It’s been fun but I’m discontinuing my commitment to keto effective 7pm EST when I pop a top on a beer after the gym.

I’ve been gaining weight which means too many calories. I don’t want to count calories and carbs, so I’m just going to count calories.

I do think I’m going to keep the carb count low though. I’m going to try to net under 60g per day and see how that goes. I have been enjoying how I feel on less carbs.

Keep this thread going and post recipies you try and end up liking.

My GF and I are talking about doing it. I’ve been decent at eating healthy the past few years but have kind of fallen off track recently. I still have a decent workout routine but I feel my body would react well to this diet.

I did this in june, and lost like 15 lbs.

Fell of the wagon during july since it was my birthday month.

Starting again today and excited to feel normal again.

Who knew eating healthy worked lol

For those who have seen the magic pill, it's pretty great.

if anyone saw what the health, here's a fun article debunking the statements made: https://www.onnit.com/academy/what-the-health/

Also, I track my macros in mynetdiary, and myfitness pal. I bought a cheap wireless bluetooth scale to chart my weight post shower in the morning, and it automatically links it to myfitnesspal.

Here is a link, i like the scale because it's rechargeable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BJY6GTJ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_6?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07BJY6GTJ

Real talk. I developed DKA which is what led me to find out I was diabetic. (BTW did you know a BS of 812 isn't good?) That shit kicked my ass. The only upside is between the keto fat burn, spending a week in the ICU, and the severly restricted diet while hospitalized, I was shredded when I got discharged.

It's the real deal. Started about 3 months ago at 241 now at 205.

Using the app Carb Manager to keep track of my macros. My biggest issue most days is I never eat enough.
Crazy how many carbs are in everything. No wonder everyone is morbidly obese and sick.

This is a good friend of mine who has been following the keto diet for years. Ten years and two kids later and she probably looks better now than she did when we first met. I don’t know if the food she makes tastes good since I’ve never eaten any of it but it looks like it would be.

That's my only concern when recommending the diet. It gets a bit fuzzy though since some people hear "keto" and think you're going to die, havent you heard about DKA? Then someone else hears that and so on. Now there's a crowd saying it's dangerous, including some doctors I know. I once had a professor claim you would die from a diet of <30g carbs daily, I challenged that notion and they claimed I hadn't done it long enough, my response was its been nearly 2 years. Naturally they cast doubt on my honesty except I have it documented online. They adhered to their belief, professing something that isn't true as they present it and others believe it. Point is, be careful. A lot of people throw DKA out there in the wrong context and scare people away, but there are some like yourself that don't actually know they have diabetes, and the risk is real. Good to hear you recovered, was there a specific reason you tried ketosis?

I already stated it but I follow a "low carb" diet now. The trade offs of high carb and keto are gone for me, minimized risk for those at risk for DKA, and it can be tailored for specific goals. For those trying to get or maintain health after >3-400g carbs a day, or those looking to drop weight quickly, a temporary cycle of ~100g a day will suffice. Outside of that anything around 100-150 daily for me causes no residual bloating, tiredness, or inflammation issues (specific to me). I float now between 150-200 daily for training purposes.

For those that train in the gym that don't want to loose their stamina, but are considering keto, look into cyclical and targeted keto diets.

I didn't try ketosis actually, LOL. I developed DKA as a result of type 1 diabetes finally throwing the genetic "on" switch and me not knowing it for like 2 weeks. I average 150 to to 250 carbs day now and certainly feel better while enjoying the benefits you mentioned above. I think really, a "low carb diet" like you and I subscribe to just equates to "eating healthy". Keto and whatever the next hot key word diet is just gives a structure to it in my mind.

    So far, so good.

Unfortunately the weather has been shitty... I really wanna get on my bike. :(

On vacation I went every other day & it felt great.

I’m not into running, jogging, or lifting - my mtn bike or hiking is my excersize.

The wife and I tried keto for about 45 days. But we were already doing IF and having great results with that. Wanted to try Keto for the sharper mental state/focus benefits, (not to lose additional weight) but I didnt notice any real difference. I'm still as dense as ever.

I did experience Keto flu, and it was miserable - but it only lasted a couple of days. Drank some salt water, hibernated on the couch and it went away. We ultimately found Keto hard to sustain when you eat anywhere else except home. Places like Outback were surprisingly Keto friendly whereas most places you'd go damn near broke ordering just fat and protein sources. Now we just manage carbs more responsibly, but we still consume them just not like before.

I've been doing IF about a year now and dropped 26 pounds (started at 216). Goal is to get to 185. For reference I am 5'10" and stocky build.
