    Hey all,

Just signed up today, looking to buy my first Toyota. I've been an American Truck guy my whole life, with an 95 S-10, 01 Blazer, 04 Avalanche, and my current ride, 13 F150 FX4. I'm tired of not being able to park in my garage, and my needs for a half ton truck are diminishing (selling the boat). SO...I've settled on a mid size, don't like the GM offerings much, don't want to wait for a Ranger, and that leaves a Taco! Plus, I've always liked them...

Right now, I'm trying to decide between a less expensive Gen 2 with a full frame replacement that is for sale near me...don't have ALL the details yet, as its not quite ready for sale. Its at a collision place that does rebuilds. This one has a clean title, new frame, and looks nice. Don't know the mileage or year.

The other option is find a Gen 3 TRD sport or Off-road at a dealer. Looked at one yesterday with 16000 miles. Very nice truck...almost pulled the trigger. I'm really waiting to hear more details on the Gen 2. I guess the owner is on Vacation, so the Lackey I talked to didn't have all the info I requested.

Oh, why am I so interested in an older truck with a Brand new frame? Cuz I'm in Michigan...Land of the rusty frames and road salt. My other ride is an 04 Wrangler...so I know about rust! Since a post in any forum without pics is terrible, here is a pic of my Jeep...Its got bigger Tires now, but they are on dumb rims while I re-finish some AEV Pintlers.

So, what say the brain trust...Hold out for the 2nd Gen or am I really giving something up not going with the 3rd Gen. Also, I noticed that 3rd Gen started in 16...the truck I looked at is a 16. Any first model year growing pains to watch out for?

Welcome! My first new vehicle was a 2017 tacoma OR and have loved putting every mile on it. Its a great truck. I was a Chevy mechanic back in 2012. I always said GM makes a great body for a truck but the engines are garbage. Ive seen some pretty horrific recalls for the engines. If you really liked the 3rd GEN and almost pulled the trigger I say GO FOR IT.

Quick question...Does the bumper to Bumper warranty transfer owners? For instance, if I were to buy a used vehicle with say 16,000 miles on it...would I have the remainder of the 3 yr / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper?

Certified preowned Chevy vehicles had the warranty transfer, You would finish up the normal warranty on the vehicle and then roll into the preowned warranty. It was hard for us mechanics to make money. I don't know about Toyota, you may want to talk to the dealership about that one.

CPO Toyotas have a 7 yr / 100,000 powertrain warranty (7 yrs from original purchase) and 3 month 3600 mile bumper to bumper.

I'm looking at private party sales as well and curious about that transfer.
