Thankfully I've never rolled a vehicle but I feel like I've had a few close calls in my truck, typically in 4lo when crawling down an extremely steep trail and trying to navigate some rocky drop-offs. Can really get your palms sweaty. Once was when I was going up a rock shelf, lost traction and slipped over to the side...thankfully I didn't tip but it felt extremely off camber at one point. The more I wheel the more I see it as actually being pretty hard to do (roll over)...unless you're going fast of course then all bets are off. I see so many cases of people rolling their rigs over when crawling though it makes me wonder if I'm really that lucky or if there's some really bad decisions being made in most of these circumstances. I get that accidents happen but damn, this seems to be going on a lot lately.

I can definitely see why it happens to trucks that are playing on boulders but most of them are usually smart enough to have roll cages

Ask all these 3rd gen owners, lol.

They probably going too fast and the truck over steered. The dirt is usually pretty slick down here.
When in doubt throttle out. They don't take the time to learn to drive.

only because of the "hurr durr I bought a TRUCK" crowd that has no 4x experience and thinks that crawl control and 4wd will save their dumb ass

yeah I see so many times in roll-over videos on youtube that a truck starts to tip and they hit the throttle trying to go in the opposite direction thinking it will right the truck, but in reality it just puts you over even faster.

oh and never stick your hand out the window to try and stop your truck from rolling, lol. You'd be surprised, I think it's a natural reaction some people have...but you aren't going to win that contest

True, I'd say I've only actually thought I was going over once, and it was me being dumb and giving it whiskey throttle (not in my Tacoma, in an old XJ on full widths) but I did put my Tacoma on three wheels pretty hard a couple weeks ago dropping off a ledge. Not close enough to be scared but a little unnerving

It's unfortunate but it is pretty easy to get into a situation that takes more skill to get out of than you have, especially if you buy a lifted/locked truck with no prior offroad experience...
I was talking to an excited third gen owner and asked him about lockers... he said "I have crawl control, I won't need those" :annoyed:
