Woke up this morning, ate some breakfast and started experiencing some pain in my right lower abdomen, I told the Captain and he got me off the ship lickidy split! At first I thought I was dealing with appendicitis come to find out it was a 5mm stone. At 42 I have never even come close to the pain I felt during the first 9 hours! I’m hoping and praying it dropped into my bladder.

    Fun, ain't it?
Had mine when I was drinking my coffee in the ready room at work.
That was truly a WTF moment.
They carted me to the hospital and it was in my bladder by that time.

Doc said to tank up on water (beer is actually good too). He said you want to be pizzing clear.
So far ,no issues in the last 7 years.

These things are so painful, they can immobilize you.
    That's the scary part.
I was a couple miles in the woods a few days earlier. WTF do you do then.
Again, as the good Doc said...Tank up.:proposetoast:

There used to be a vid on Youtube showing some guy in India getting a couple hundred removed, with the Benny Hill music playing.
There's a type of stone called a "Jack Stone" that is a cross between an old school jack and a sea urchin.
    Those look pretty disturbing.

Had my first experience last Thurs. I went to the dr and she was thinking appendix. Got a scan done , the other dr said the kidney stone showed right up . He said I should pass it in a couple days , it's been a week , nothing . The pain is gone but I'm just wondering where that sucker went , I guess its hanging out in my bladder for a while. The strainer they gave me hasn't caught anything so we shall see.

    Check The Build Thread
I literally used to be a rock star. Owned my own rock quarry and everything.

    TMI moment...

For years I used to pass an average of 4 stones per year. My right ureter became large enough to pass them freely to my bladder and I became good at knowing when they were coming and knowing how to build up enough pressure to get them moving out of my bladder. Fucking sucks when they get lodged on the way out...because then you have wait until you’ve got to urinate again to get it moving. If you don’t wait long enough and try, it’ll maybe move a little further if at all. Key is to get it out once it starts it’s journey or it’s another whole level of pain after you experienced the abdomen pain. Like pissing razor blades...seriously.

The one time I had to go to the ER, the fuckers left me in the waiting room for hours on the floor in pain. By the time they finally brought me back, I had already passed it into my bladder. I then learned that if you want to bypass the waiting room, get an ambulance ride.

I’ve had two lithotripsy procedures, one ureteroscopy, and even one open surgery where they went through my back and had to remove a huge one from my left kidney that became lodged and blocking my ureter. So many different meds from pain management to some that are supposed to neutralize stone formation before it happens. Finally they figured out that it was a hyperactive parathyroid and I had one of the four removed. Stone free since but still need periodic follow ups for a while to make sure one of the other three don’t pick up the slack for the one that was removed.

Moral of my story...if they begin to get regular and you have labs done, adamantly request they check your parathyroid levels and save yourself hell on earth.

Kidney stones are the fucking worst. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but that's the one thing that brought me to my knees. And even though the pain in the kidneys sucks, like others have said, pizzing it out was a million times worse.

I'v ever experienced a kidney stone but it sounds alot like passing a gall stone (passed two of those) and the first sent me to the ER where morphine was the only thing that even came close to easing the pain. No gallbladder anymore so no worries anymore in that dept.

Wishing you the best. Question about getting you off the ship. Were you at sea, which seems difficult, or tied up at home?

Had four stones in one year, what I learned:
    1. coconut water sped up the time it took to pass.
    2. drink lots of water.
    3. lower your salt intake. I have had lower blood pressure so I never paid attention to salt. My stone was calcium, turns out my kidneys were overwhelmed with salt and couldn't keep up.
Since keeping salt close(still over RDA) to normal I haven't had another stone.
