Dealer invited me to have Toyota Engineers look at transmission

Edit - so people quit asking - They looked at it. Drove it. Took notes. End of story. Nothing miraculous to report.

So remember that survey a bunch of us received a few weeks ago asking about the transmission problems? Well, the dealer called me yesterday and said that since I marked on that survey that I would be willing to participate in future investigations, they want me to bring the truck in so Toyota engineers can hook the truck up to some diagnostics, drive it, and do a ride along. $200 gift card for me for my time.

So, aside from the "decelerating from ~40mph to 10mph and then hitting the gas makes it jump", what else should I bring up while I'm there?

    edit

    1. Decelerating from 40+ down to almost stop and then go and the truck lags or jerks when accelerating

    2. Hard thud downshift 2 to 1 when cold.

    3. Rumblestrip feeling 10-20mph coasting

    4. Under ECT, the transmission shifts very rough/erratically

    5. Difficulty in getting software updates

Is it just the transmission or also the drive line? If the drive line, bring up the vibration/shake around 20mph coasting or slowing down..

Or rolling to a stop and then accelerating and it shifts all erratic and clunky. Putting your foot down and the trucks thinks about what it wants to do for a good 1.5 seconds

well hopefully they will fix these issues going forward so that the late 19's and 2020 hopefully will be perfect trucks by then!!!!!!

This is specifically what I noted in the survey. I'll make sure this is a big one.

I've had my truck do this, but not all the time. Not sure if I can get the truck to do it on command.

No, Tacomas only become “perfect” when they are discontinued and a new Gen is released. Then the guys with the older Gen start going on about how perfect they are.

Tell them that putting a car motor in a truck was a bad idea and they're fired.

This could be a really useful thread. I hope it doesn't get derailed.

I'm hoping the same. Negative comments aren't needed. I'm looking for a true list of items to bring up and attempt to show them.

L2Drive. I have no issues with the motor. I think the software needs updating to address the transmission issues.

You could mention the Cruise control shift dancing and lack of ability to hold a gear at the slightest incline etc.

Unfortunately, it's tough for me to recreate this one as I live in FL where everything is as flat as a sheet of paper.

I think a legitimate point to raise is the reluctance of many dealers to apply the software changes from the latest TSB. Either the trucks need the new software change or they don't. Obviously they do.

We should all be able to go into a Toyota dealer and have the upload done without all the bullshit that some folks are going through.

My 1st did and 2nd gen does this as well and it annoys the piss outta me driving through the Wasatch foothills. Any time I go down to Hurricane, I just gotta do the 4 hours manually.
