2018 TRD 4x4 Sport vs 2018 TRD Pro

My 2018 Sport was built 3/19 in Mexico and I have not had one issue with it. It's a nice smooth and sweet ride. Sorry you had issues with your's, but that's with all vehicles built in mass.

 

I knew from the title this thread was trouble, and I bit anyway.

What the heck happened on this post. They deleted a whole bunch from those guys arguing but they deleted my last post for no reason. I answered legit questions.

 

Even though I was not, I was asking why is there such a difference when the fixes should have already been at the Mexico plant, but why do you care if I trash a manufacturing plant? Is yours made in Mexico. Are you from Mexico?

 

Because the Mexico vs. Texas debate was settled a long time ago.

No it didn't. You sound like you got a bad one, so I guess in your mind and there is a difference. That's anecdotal though. If you actually check out the hundreds and thousands of data points imputed by users here, you see there is 0 difference. Glad you found your happy place, but carrying on like there is some magical difference in the plants or even with the parts in a sport or pro makes you look silly. There is no pro rear diff, there is no sport transmission. Most of these parts are widely shared between models. My OR has the same rear your pro has and it's whined and leaked like everything else.

Also, you might want to hold off on patting yourself on the back and give your truck some time to see what happens. My truck was pretty awesome initially as well...

OP, I think you got a lemon with that Sport. It happens. I think there is some confusion as to why you would trade it in on a Pro, and not just demand a cheaper remedy like a replacement Sport, but each to there own.

I think blaming it on Mexico is a non-starter. Lemons come out of Texas as well.

As others have said, I'm glad you are happy with your Pro. I have one as well and love it.

 

The only issue with my '15 Sport was... a bad rod bearing, so it got a new short block. Mexican built truck, pretty sure the engines aren't built there. No other issues in about 23k miles.

My '18 Texas built sport.....had a mismatched rear bumper cap (silver instead of cement, a fender flare that was separating from the body, baggy and scratched "leather" on the rear seat. All of which was noted and fixed in a timely fashion. Today it is in the shop to have some clutch pedal parts replaced (pedal sounds like a door in a haunted house) and the non-functioning lumber adjuster on the drivers seat looked at. It has 3700 miles on it.

So, my 2nd gen Mexican built truck had no issues other than the engine, which is probably not their fault, and my 3rd gen Texas built truck has had a list of issues. What does this mean? Probably not much.

I do know I don't really dig the Rav4 loaner, super low effort steering and soft suspension strangely reminiscent of a 70's Ford LTD.

It’s been a few years but I’m pretty sure factory quality debates were a factor leading up to the war.

Just kidding. Factory location is not a bearing on quality. If one were clearly better than another I’m pretty sure Toyota would be acting to address it.

 

You are missing everything I said. I know there is no difference in the parts. They are all the same, supposedly. Engine and trans are made in USA. My point was that the Mexico plant got the changes later then SA.

Yep, bought them in Grapevine. I moved here 4 years ago and have bought a GT350 from Grapevine Ford and it was a POS, burning oil every 500 miles. Trans overheat, recall on oil cooler. Then traded that in for the ZL1. No problems with that car.

I love Grapevine. Don't want to live anywhere else.
