I wouldn't risk the flight out in that helicopter. The "pilot" doesn't look all that experienced. js

I don't trust those tiny helicopters. They look like they were bought and assembled at walmart.

 

Airbus (Eurocopter) A-Star is a very common tourist helicopter. It's better quality than a Robinson R-22 or R-44, but I wouldn't trust an in-experienced pilot flying me that far over water. Most (not all) tourist pilots are just building time, so they can move on to a higher paying gig.

You might as well post a sign on the side saying "shark bait"...

One crashed not too long ago out at Ft Morgan AL if I remember right. Just rinky dink looking if you ask me. Not sure the weight of a OH-58D (guessing on what you flew) but you're welcome to fly me out there in one. I can jump from the skid. LOL

it's not as fun because easy trails just piss you off spinning on top of flat ground while being locked all around.

 

Not to be that guy, but aren't you supposed to not fly the flag in inclement weather?

 

Max GWT of an OH-58D (Bell 406) is 5200 lbs. On some missions in the stan, some of us senior gus took off at 5400-5500 (full ammo/full fuel) and got back down below 5200 by the time we hit our "mission" area. I also flew Bell 407's and MD-530's (MH-6J's).

For a tourism ride, I recommend the B407.

I'd say he was pushing that R-44 way beyond it's limits.


Could that second one been from the updraft coming up the edge of the mountain?

 

I might have done the same thing if I had to fly passengers yelling like that all day every day...

 

Most likely, but difficult to tell from the video. He may have tried landing with a tailwind.
