Got things mostly straight how they should be. Fine tuning is all that's left.
I really tweaked it hard hitting that ledge at Rush. Just couldn't get on the same line from the day before. Learning curve. Shit happens when you actually push yourself and your tools!

If it wasn't Appalachian monsoon season, I would! Something tells me welding in rainy weather can hurt the baby.
Need to practice. Gonna pilfer the scrap bins here at work to play so my tab welds don't come out like total shit.

    Mid skid coming today.
    Clutch by Wednesday.

    Provided weather doesn't interfere.
Gotta get one of the 2 rear IFS skid bolts drilled out likely. The little nut, inside the cross member before the trans, that's welded in has broken free. Not the first time one of these buggers on the truck did this, first time in this tight a spot though. Skid HAS to come out for easy removal of trans/t case for clutch install.

Any brilliant ideas? Tried wedging a 13 and 12mm wrench in there to grab the nut. Starts to grab then rolls right off due to angle of the dangle of applied forces. Haven't torched yet. Figure drilling out and attempting to weld it back in would yield a better result.

    This is spot on, mostly.

My rear is A02A. Which is 8" rear (always heard it's 8.4" though) with 4:10 girz (100% correct) and an open diff (also, sadly, correct)
I thought the giant "C" on the sticker that's on the diff meant something, likely doesn't mean anything in regard to the above thread. Will look into this further.

Did this thinking I may have had a LSD in the rear, which sucks!

    How is the alignment going?

I am A02A also. Yes, the "8.4" technically measures "8". The biggest difference between our trucks and it seems what appears to be most other Toyota trucks, is our trucks use the handle bar type bearing truss' over the carrier while it seems many of the other trucks do not, If I'm not mistaken.

Does that add anything for strength or no?

Hey deeds, i know how you feel about km2's in the rain, but..... it rained this morning here (not too much, but enough). I was turning right onto a street from another (note: there is no stop sign for me), and as i turn, i drift my truck in the turn...... a woman who was driving the opposite direction put her hands up to her windshield and started clapping. That made my morning :humble:

8" and 8.4" are two totally different diffs. Dimensionally they are similar but they each have their own unique R&P, carrier, case and housing. Biggest tip off of the difference is the girdle that bridges over the caps on the 8.4" and makes the housing cover have a significantly different shape from the 8.

Yes, pretty significant improvement in ring gear deflection.

So, this makes the open diff 8.4 stronger than the 8"? Where's the weak point in locking them?

Correct. Typically the R&P itself is the weak point...the girdle keeps them together better than the 8" but it's still a relatively small gearset.

I never had an issue with mine on 37's fwiw.

This is good news! Hopefully won't go to complete shit with the locker.

I will likely stay on 33, at most, until I'm 100% ready to regear. Even now, I feel that 4.56 or 4.88 is needed at times running armor and the KM2s. And I'm not even packing all my tools I normally carry every day

We said the same thing. In different ways, lol.

The deflection is what causes ring gear teeth to break off in the off road models. I also personally think its was tears apart Levi's locker. Deflection eventually either shears the carrier bolts or they keep backing out until boom!

New clutch came yesterday! Pumped that it's here, not so much for solo intall/minimal help from the gf while she's at work. But, I've read the shit outta @allmotorrex's clutch install write-up and feel pretty confident I can get it done in a weekend.

Still tossing the idea of whether to resurface the flywheel or not. Might wait til next weekend to really tackle it. Don't want to tear it down and find an issue with short notice of needing time off from my menial job.
