It honestly sounds like the engine vibration is causing a loose part to tap intermittently. Maybe it's a loose bolt on your bellhousing inspection cover?

Maybe watch the video a dozen or so times, so you're certain which area the noise is emulating from. Then aim and move the camera at that area no more than a few inches while you're recording. Just my suggestion...

You went over a large area of the engine in the video, it's hard to figure where the source is at... But it sounded the loudest nearer where the trans/engine mating takes place. :notsure:

Sounds like a pulley bearing or something external is loose.

It deffinelty comes from the bottom end. I’m gonna check the flex plate torque converter bolts tomorrow. I read on another forum some guy had intermittent ticking in drive like me and it was the loose bolts. Just gotta be sure not to over tighten.

Still planning on changing the main bearings at some point and checking for play on the rod bearings. But I was told I could possibly warp the main seals since the main cap on the 5VZ is one piece with all the internal weight being on them. Hopefully that’ll make my crank run true.

Anyone have a link to the guide for the shift seat swap? I remember seeing it and can't find it again.

This will work. The problem with flushing (this isn't really a flush, BTW) is that it's done with a machine, and quite often it's done backwards- blowing crap INTO the transmission where it had been settled into a harmless corner.

I have had much better luck using an external, inline filter. Magnafine are excellent filters, and they have both a magnetic filter and a fine filter medium- as well as a bypass valve- so if you forget about it, or it plugs up, they freeflow and save the transmission (so long as they are installed in the proper direction).

The place you want to install them is on the return line from the steering gear, or the transmission cooler (both are hydraulic systems, so the filter is equally applicable to them). I have actually had transmissions that wouldn't shift , shift better than ever after application of one of these.

As for getting all the fluid out- short of a drain plug on the torque converter, or removing it from the system and emptying it- the method above is one way to do it. Another is to drop the fluid in the pan, refill. Then do this 3 times more within 500 miles or so, and you have got approx 95% of the fluid changed out. Better yet- put the filter I spoke of, in while you are doing this. You will be amazed the difference it makes.

Ive had 2 on different trucks, no complaints other than they are a bitch to install when you have to burn or cut the old bushings out

I hope yours goes easier than mine did. The rubber on mine bunched up under the spring and didnt let me push down far enough on the shifter cap. Cussed and threw tools at it for 2 hours until I succumbed to taking it to the dealer. Its always the easy jobs that end up screwing me over.

I’m having trouble finding gear, the positions are a little vague. The shifter bushing can be causing this right?

Yes... what else would it be? I have a feeling that shifter bushing with 450k is original.

For a manual trans, yeah. Get a new seat and bushing from marlin crawler.
