Dealer just called, the TSB didn't fix it. Toyota authorized them to order and replace the leaf springs (which aren't part of the TSB for Super Long Wheelbase) too. They're keeping the truck until its fixed and providing a rental car

My truck had the whine/howl from the rear end. Down hill with foot barely on pedal would result in the noise between 50-60mph. Or freeway cruising slightly below speed limit maintaining speed would do it too.

Lifted the truck at 10K miles and havent heard it since. Truck now has 25K miles on it. Im guessing it was a resonance issue of some type that changed with the angles produced with the OME lift. I had brought it up to the dealer several times with no answers.

Dealer just called, it's all done. Did the TSB AND installed new Rear leaf springs. Their Tech said the Howl is gone. I'm picking it up in a few hours, I'll report back after lunch

Hopefully it really is gone! I just realized you have the exact same truck as me. I also am pretty sure you are the first non TRD truck that actually got the dealer to do the TSB on. Who is your dealer?? ha

My tsb has been done for 13k miles or so and it's still fixed Imo. I had the howl on decel from 60-40 mph. I'd still put it at 90% better. Now it's just tire and road noise. I never even think about it anymore.

Awesome. My dealer replaced the body mounts and diff, but nothing else and mine still whines. They said I didnt need the leafs, but looks like yours as well as the last poster had the leaves replaced and that helped the whine... Hmmmm...

I'm assuming I'd know if I had this howling issue? The noise is pretty distinct?

    Oh yeah.

I think it varies on how loud it can be. Loud like mine to where people didn’t notice it for 20k miles.

Don’t go looking for it because once you hear it, that is one bell you can’t un-ring. I now hear it in other peoples cars.

Feather the throttle between 55-60mph. On flat, slight uphill or slight downhill. The sound might also happen at ~28mph. I've got the sound happening all over the place post-TSB. Including 2mph. The sound kicks in for just a split second.

I'm back from the dealer, it's still there, quieter, but still there, and its audible at different speeds now. They didn't replace the leafs, they did the other 3 part#'s. I guess I'll be getting some Dynamat next

I have to call Toyota next (keep putting it off or forgetting) as they need to do something about this when spending so much on a vehicle.

Please stay on them. They're now gonna tell you it's "normal". Don't accept that response.

    Thank you, sir!
Well that sucks. Pretty much the same post TSB results as my SR5. I have sound deaden the entire rear interior of mine. I pulled the rear seats, c pillar trim, and both storage compartments to put the sound deadener in. Also shoved way more foam in the c pillars. It helped a tiny bit, but you can’t unhear the howl once you hear it haha

I hope you get the results you want BUT don’t get your hopes up with dynamat. Keep pushing corporate over this issue. We need a fix yet got a bandaid.
