Building the "BEAST"

Got the shifter handle in for the transfer case now.

Was out sick for a week and got nothing done until today.

Here is the rest of the install!

OK, while i'm messing around with the transfer case and crawler I thought it time t do a change that I have been wanting to do for awhile.

I had my air locker switches on the left side of the steering wheel on the dash and it looked good there but I noticed that when I'm wheeling I would have to switch hands to turn on and off the lockers. I didn't like that.

I wanted to keep my left hand on the steering wheel at all times and control the ancellary equipment with my right hand.

To do this I had to find a place to put these. Looking at helicopters I found that they had some secondary switches in the upper panel above the pilot. So I said to myself, self, if it's good enough for a pilot then it's good enough for me.

I moved the switches from here.



To here.


They will be in the little sun glass holder that I never use. Perfect.



Got the ARB switches in and working awesome. Now I can control all the important stuff while wheeling with out taking my left hand off of the steering wheel or having to look down and around the steering wheel to find the locker switches.

So what are you going to put in the empty switches by the steering wheel?

 

My rock light switches are going there and then I'll find something for the console.

 

I have a solid front axle so I dont have add at all.

 

Yes, you have to have either a crawler or a Marlin Crawler Lefty to use the clocking ring.. But as you can see from the next post, you can put a crawler in your truck and make it look like it came from the factory that way.

And RST has the best prices on Marlins crawlers anywhere.

With the FJ case and a solid front axle there is no need for any of the actuators at all. It's all manual now. I can still shift on the fly if I want to but have really never seen a need to do so. Shifting into 4wd with this case is really easy now and going from 4wd to 4wd lo is easy as well. Love it. Toyota should have done this in the first place.

I agree. Probably a lot more than 90% though. Maybe it should be an option or a "beast" package then.

 

Yeah, but it would cost too much. Just a couple of the things I've done would be great like a solid front axle and the FJ t-case would have been great.
